Kind of Calmness

Bio:

This is the myspace-site of "Kind of Calmness" (2001-2003).

K.o.C. originally started as a funk & alternative-rock band in 1999, (Zahn/ Bosbach/ Bockemühl/ Asbach).

In late 2001, after the departure of Jens Bockemühl and Sven Asbach, Kind of Calmness continued with Mel on bass and Christian Barthold on guitar.

Kind of Calmness consequently changed their style and became more quiet and jazzy, with athmospheric sounds and more Trip Hop style. This fitted Sonja's vocal style much more. It really wasn't Black music, but a sophisticated white funky-jazzy retro sound, so they named their style "Northern Funk".

K.o.C. did some concerts in the area of cologne/germany and made an album in 2003 (Sooner or later). It's funk, jazz, bossa nova, psychedelic and electronic guitarsounds and much more. After some more concerts, Kind of Calmness had to disband – due to Sonja Zahn's study of psychology in a different part of Germany.

So this is a my space-site to remember the nice music of the quartet in it's form from 2001-2003.

Some Live Videos:

"Another kind of Calmness"

"Letter to Africa"

"Brothers and Sisters"

"Sunday"

K.o.C. apologizes for the bad sound+video quality of the Live videos. But these are the only things available.

Sounds Like:

don't know ... K.o.C. were four very different personalities with different taste of music. But they also had some common favourites.. like: Portishead, Saint Etienne, Stereolab, which maybe is the music that could be compared best to their own music. K.o.C. were also into Keziah Jones, Goldfrapp, Björk, Tory Amos, Curtis Mayfield ... 70's filmscore music, Miles Davis, Red Hot Chily Peppers ... and many more.

Love the way Wolf is elegant and brash at the same time - harmonically and texturally - even the influence it has on you.

Desert is about being lost in selfishness. She's Not With Us is about being found thru self-imposed lonliness - as a last resort sometimes - being freaky by yourself, or around other people. There was this guy in To Kill A Mockingbird who pretended he was insane so the bigots would leave him alone. Living alone and having no friends is a luxury.

Desert is about being lost in selfishness. The second half of She's Not With Us is an anthem to finding oneself in a sort of lonliness. I relate to this second song - it is one way to avoid the example of the first.

      Greetings,

Instead of vowing to honor and obey each other, we should swear to aid and abet each other.

Human physiology does not direct all of its own functions; it is interdependent. It must be steadied by the physical presence of another. This is necessary for both physical and emotional health. In many ways, humans cannot be stable on their own—they require another to survive.

If a man does not make new acquaintances as he advances through life, he will soon find himself alone. A man should keep his friendships in constant repair.

But whether it be dream or truth, to do well is what matters. If it be truth, for truth's sake. If not, then to gain friends for the time when we awaken.
    --Pedro Calderon de la Barca

May all your storms be weathered,
and all that is good get better.

Just listened to She's Not With Us again - some great moments - the way she says "poet" and the guitar solo - the whole feel is grand - makes me think about dealing with living alone
