Ayala Kalisher first found fire in the small suburbia known as Davis, CA, where fire was just about the only thing to do. She performed there with the fire troop FLUX and taught partner poi classes through the The Spinagogue. Upon arriving in Santa Cruz she created the fire community Fire University -Santa Cruz where she met all the beautiful people who would become Kinetica. Ayala dances with fire poi, zip poi, fire whip, and staff as well as fire breathing. Anthony Rutland.
Enraptured by the beauty of fire and movement long ago in an underground club in Portland Oregon, Anthony picked up his first fire toy in 2001. A search for those involved in the performing arts community ensued. Soon he found himself thrust into a fiery world of eclectic personalities and mind altering talent that far exceeded anything he had ever seen. Brimming with excitement and enthusiasm fueled by a desire to learn....the journey began. After years of performing at various venues all over the SF Bay Area with the likes of many local talented performers, he found a group of very talented and enthusiastic individuals that shared the same passion and vision. Kinetica was then soon born. Building on a base of influences from brazilian martial arts to modern dance, choice objects of manipulation range from Double Fire swords, Staff, The Wheel of Death (aptly named) and Poi. Always looking to create innovative, exciting, and bigger fire toys, Anthony can be found performing at Fire University Santa Cruz Sunday nights at the lighthouse with the other members of Kinetica.
Ian Boyd grew up having an insatiable desire to move & manipulate any object within grasp, utilizing its potential for nonviolent expression. He was initiated into the fire community in '05 via a tenaciously beautiful fire goddess who taught him the value of experiencing the living moment & the power to convey it through ecstatic dance. Ian's tool of choice is poi yet he enjoys anything else that's on fire. You'll find him at the Fire University S.C., sharing tips, laughs, & light with kindred spirits.
Dyami Kaplan was first introduced to fire dancing in the summer of 2006 by SriKanta Barefoot on the sands of Santa Cruz, and has been a pyromaniac (one who start fires to induce euphoria) for most of his life. Dyami specializes in poi, single staff, hoop, double staff, modern dance, ballet, acrobatic tumbling, hip-hop, jazz, ballroom dance and the sun wheel, but additionally has experience with club swinging, fire eating, fans, flow-wand/levi-sticks, belly dance, flower sticks, and salsa.
Firefly, Maria Scarano... Her practice started on the beaches of the Big Island of Hawaii about 5 years ago. Tuning back into the body and meditation, and through the beat of the drum, she started to play with poi. That quickly became a deep and meaningful journey of balace and flow. Any teacher that came through the island would be followed around. She joined the troupe TransFire, and created with them for years, and helped in leadership for the Hawaiian Islands Buring Man conclave, Ke Mana Lei O Ke Ahi, "The great circle of fire." She moved to California to expand and join forces with like minded people and joined Kinetica, and is blossoming into her character of "Firefly." Her props include poi, staff, double staff, juggling clubs, hoop, fans, mini hoops, eating, breathing. She loves to dance, and enjoys doing it to a beat!
Once upon a time in a land far far away, separated from the world by dense forest and vast oceans, a small group of talented beautiful people decided that they were tired of their average lives. They denounced their sanity, and despite what their mothers told them, they begun playing with fire. Thus Kinetica was born.
