OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO FOR DEBUT SINGLE TEENAGE DREAMS!
For a band still in its infancy, King Cannons have already experienced the kinds of destructive setbacks often reserved for more veteran acts. The old adage, “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” definitely rings true as the band has emerged from it all a tighter, cohesive unit. Thus, to fully appreciate their music you must first understand their story. It is their story that makes them unique, their struggle that defines their sound.
At the end of 2007, King Cannons burst onto the scene to light up venues with their unique brand of high voltage Rock ‘n Roll. Originally a 4-piece made from abandoned local acts, their sound was raw and passionate, a true testament to the members’ punk roots. With the inclusion of a percussionist and a keyboard player early 2008, King Cannons became a 6-piece tour de force, the new additions promoting a fresher, more dynamic sound while adding a powerful stage presence to boot.
King Cannons became mainstays on the local circuit; their high energy live performances and memorable songs earned a respectable following in Auckland City which lead to a support slots for a slew of international acts including punk legends, Stiff Little Fingers. It seemed things were moving steadily for the band. However, just as King Cannons were beginning to find their feet the ground began to crumble from beneath them.
To fulfil the band’s ambitions, plans to relocate to London, mid-2008 were announced. Before long, half the band was living in England while the other half planned to join them on the proviso their pending visa applications were successful. They weren’t. Shackled by government red tape and the inability to return home, all the positive momentum King Cannons had gained in New Zealand came to a gut-wrenching halt. King Cannons had burnt away before they’d even had a chance to shine.
Being split over 2 continents with over 11000 miles between them it would be forgivable for the band members to call it quits. However, eager to hone their craft the members all forged on. From the still-smouldering ashes rose London’s “KC Luke and the Six Million Dollar Men” and Auckland’s “KC3”, the former collaborating with reggae artist Chris Murray while both continued to perform extensively. As 2008 faded away, “Plan B” was officially set in motion. The long road back to King Cannons had begun.
Nestled quietly amongst the ashes the phoenix prepares to emphatically rise once again, a renewed vigour and an exciting new city at its feet. Armed with their epic new single, "Teenage Dreams", King Cannons are officially back and burning up playlists all over Melbourne, Australia and the world!
Raw, energetic and genuinely honest, their influences span many genres and many walks of life. Country, rock ‘n’ roll, reggae and punk are but a few of the styles that make this sound unique, challenging the conventions of genre and form while rising above the discrimination and giving everybody, everywhere something to enjoy. The King Cannons sound encompasses everything from the power of The Clash to the style of Chuck Berry; the soul of Desmond Dekker and the raw emotion of Johnny Cash. Put simply: it’s real music for a rockin’ world.
So keep your ears to the ground. The rumbling is growing louder.
