King Dylan - HEART vs BRAIN - Coming in AUGUST's Latest Blog Entry

“King Dylan” Roberts is an off-the-wall Alternative Hip Hop artist currently living in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. In the past 10 years, he has learned to produce and perfect all of music with his voice, his piano/synthesizer, his bass guitar, his drum sequencing software, and his heart that thinks it’s a brain. While he looks and dresses like he should be a member Billy Talent, Dylan is ambitious and adamant to give off the impression that it’s not necessary to wear XXXL clothing and wear hats for sports teams he doesn’t cheer for in order to fit the ‘Hip Hop image’; “Indie Rock kids can like Hip Hop too” says Dylan.
Now imagine the styles of Gorillaz, Linkin Park, Eminem, and Kings of Leon all rolled into one self-produced rap lyricist. With choruses that are unfairly catchy, verses that are easily relatable yet intellectually stimulating , and well-played instrumentation that is impossible to sit still to, King Dylan has stepped his game up on his new project like playing Tetris while on the stairmaster.
Heart Vs. Brain is the newest offering King Dylan is shoving in our pretty faces, in hopes of mirroring the necessary balance in life between order versus chaos. It is a bipolar reflection of questions and confusions with reality, love, hate, and most importantly how awesome Dylan actually thinks he is. Featuring tracks with Juno award-winner, Moka Only (of Swollen Members), Dylan’s own group The D.C. Show, and rock band Killing Casual’s lead singer, Oren Zacharias, the album boasts a fresh new taste for Hip Hop, partnering up with indie rock-pop flavour like raspberries and vanilla ice cream. The album was mastered by industry professional Phil Demetro (K-OS, Serena Ryder, Ill Scarlett) at The Lacquer Channel in Toronto
The King has already previously released four independent Hip Hop albums in the past 4 years on his own Piece Out Records label, including two with his group The D.C. Show, all four of which were self-written, produced and recorded. With the release of all four of these albums came tours and gigs throughout Western Canada, private party performances, TV appearances (CityTV), significant radio rotation, CD reviews and interviews in local, regional, and national newspapers and magazines (ie. Exclaim). King Dylan has also collaborated with or played shows with basically every local Albertan musician you can name, regardless of genre, and never fails to impress with his unequalled live show energy and spontaneous humor.
In Dylan’s spare time, he also dabbles as bass guitarist for the rock band Broken Ride, who have made a significant impression in Western Canada as well. Recently they shared the stage with Thornley and even had a one on one dance-off with State of Shock. They have recorded in the studio working with some of the bigger names of Canadian producers: Dale Penner and Chris Burke-Gaffney (accredited to producing such artists as Nickelback and Chantal Krevaziuk, respectively).
Heart vs. Brain hits retail stores and online stores this summer. Look for the music video “Sing Sing Sing” on Youtube soon!
Dylan also has experience and credibility with graphic design including CD covers booklets (set to industry standard templates), stickers, and posters. He is a University of Calgary Graduate in the faculty of Communication & Culture with a minor in Visual Art & Art History. Open to new projects and ideas, charging reasonable yet competitive rates, Dylan can efficiently make your next graphic project look professional and stylish. Contact for more info.
