Kingfisha are a 5 piece reggae band from Brisbane. They have a wealth of live experience, featuring in some of Brisbane’s most prominent bands over the last five years.
Kingfisha have a deep and abiding respect for reggae and its origins. They have taken the Jamaican rhythms and infused them with honest songwriting and strong melodies to create their own sound… Honest, Aussie Reggae.
They began as a studio project with Anthony Forrest, Andrew Stephens and Shannon Green, following the disbandment of dub/electro act ‘Promiscuous’. In January 2008 Nik Mayer-Miller and Kristina Thomas joined to form the live band. They released their debut EP, “Promises”, in August.
The second half of 2008 has seen Kingfisha do a spectacular variety of successful shows including supporting Katchafire (N.Z), Reggae Town Festival (Cairns), Cairns on Collins Street Festival, Island Vibes Festival (Stradbroke Island), a an East Coast tour and the iconic ‘Dub Day Afternoon’ in Brisbane. In January 2009 they completed a successful tour to Melbourne and are currently recording their debut album.
