The King Kong Club returns for its fifth year, bigger and better and in a new home!
Yes, ladies & gentlemen & boys & girls, The Village on Wexford Street will host the weekly musical extravaganza which sees 6 acts go head to head playing three songs each in a cauldron of excitement.
Then we roll out our famous Clap-O-Meter; a gigantic, scientifically homemade replica of The Empire State Building which lights up to the ecstatic reaction of an audience going bananas. The winner then goes forward on a journey through a perilous musical jungle until we are left with the King of the Kong, the grand prizewinner!

Now in its 5th year, the infamous King Kong Club has an incredible prize to offer this years winner - 9 days recording time in Portugal with Morrissey’s musical director Boz Boorer in the production seat of his own studio, including flights & transfers, accommodation, food, beverages, on-site facilities (swimming pool, playstation, home cinema) and full use of Boorer’s incredible arsenal of vintage guitars, drum kits and amplifiers.
Serra Vista Studios is set in an old farmhouse just outside the beautiful hilltop town of Monchique in Portugal’s sunny Algarve and is equipped with all modern recording facilities and a unique array of vintage equipment. Boz Boorer was in the seminal rockabilly band The Polecats but is better known as Morrissey’s current co-songwriter/producer and longtime guitarist. Boz’s other production credits include albums with Madness, Kirsty McColl, Edwyn Collins, Adam Ant and Jools Holland.
The winning act will win free flights and transfers to Boz’s residential studio complex, which means free accommodation, 3 meals per day, wine & beer, swimming pool, home cinema, Playstation and full use of all Boz’s vintage musical equipment, including drum kits, vintage guitars and amplifiers.

The King Kong Club is a weekly, free admission, open mic night with a difference. Now in it’s fith year! The show features 3 song performances from 6 emerging acts, competing for fantastic prizes, all judged by the specially made highly scientific 'King Kong Clap-O-Meter'. The judging takes place on audience reaction .
