"King Gordy" A unique, totally twisted, musically anal, morbid music loving MC. Gordy’s look is just as unusual as his sound and can best be described as a turbulent mix of hard rhymes mixed with edgy guitars and crazy beats. He is a different kind of hip hop artist and he knows he has a hard road ahead of him. Gordy explains, “I already know before people even hear the music they are going to form an opinion about me.” But there is so much more to King Gordy than meets the eye.
King Gordy sees his music as pure, hip hop escapism tinged with tough, touches of reality. Gordy’s music sounds a lot like a horror flick, sans the movie. As soon as you hear the first powerful chords of “In The Darkness,” with its operatic crescendos and dramatic lyrics, your heart starts to beat a little faster and the goose bumps start to appear on your arms. “I’m hip hop with a rock and roll twist, the ghetto Edgar Allen Poe.” In the vein of some of Poe’s more dramatic stories, King Gordy takes the listener on a journey with sonically graphic songs like “Nightmares” and “Time To Die.”
While King Gordy works with Detroit’s hip hop elite, He released his debut album "The Entity" featuring guest appearances from Bizarre and Obie Trice and production from Eminem. The album was critically acclaimed by local journalists. Which was followed by a mix tape, "King of Horrorcore Vol.1" which received rave reviews from fans and critics alike, mostly because of its incredibly dark lyricism, unpolished sound, his claims of being the king of horrorcore are well founded as it is unlikely the world has ever heard a true M.C. take such a dark journey . The next in the line of mixtapes to come was Van Dyke and Harper Music which is still regaurded as the best mixed underground album of 2007.
King Gordy also appeared as the rapper “Big-O” in the acclaimed film, 8 Mile. “My life hasn’t changed much from being in the movie because my own life is a movie.” In fact, King Gordy was signed to the label that released Eminem first, WEB Entertainment. Shortly after the release of the movie 8 Mile, Gordy seperated from the Entertainment Group.
Another theme throughout King Gordy’s music is depression, a subject he knows first hand. “Depression doesn’t just come from the white side. Rock artists don’t just have a monopoly on depression.” You see the results of this depression everyday in the hardened streets of Detroit that King Gordy hails from. It’s nothing but depression hovering in the weed smoke of the toughest gangsters and the bums drinking on the corner. The songs “Situations” (featuring Obie Trice), “Time To Die” (featuring Bizarre of D12) and “The Mask” are excellent examples of the stress and depression inside Gordy’s mind. Speaking of stress, Gordy speaks about what happens when stress pushes him past the breaking point in the album cuts, “Stress,” “The Fight” and “We Violent.”
At the Gathering Of The Juggalos 2007, King Gordy released his latest mixtape "Cobain's Diary" to positive reviews. In 2008 King Gordy began his latest and most sought for project "The Great American Weed Smoker" to be released late Summer 08. The same themes and hip-hop/rock beat hybrid-beats on Gordy’s album can also be found in the early incarnations of rap and rock music. Both styles have always perfectly captured teen rebellion and rage. So don’t be afraid to experience something new and check out all of King Gordy's albums, "A World of Horrorcore Music"...
