The Kingpin brethren are: Gecko, Gilbatron, Malarky, Kraymon and Jon Rokka
To the untrained eye this may seem like a large number of people to run one club night. But you only have to look at the fingers on your hand to realise that five seems to work. In the world of music, Kingpin definitely has opposable thumbs, which makes it undisputedly a superior species to all others. In terms of survival of the fittest, Kingpin wins….(hands down).
One of the ways in which this combination of audio-digits seem to work so well is that there is not just one, but five unique DJs adding to the mix. Nothing gets boring at Kingpin, no night is the same. Regardless of the venue, no matter how hard you look, there are no holes for pigeons. In addition to resident nights, which create such a sense of community it puts neighbourhood watch schemes to shame, there have been a pantheon of guest DJs, including:
30hz, A Guy Called Gerald, Amb, Andrea Parker, Aquasky, Aril Brikha, Atomic Hooligan, Autobots, Blim, Chris Carter, Dave Tarrida, Dean Muhsin, Deetron, Dexter, Dopamine, D Rameriez, Elite Force, Fine Cut Bodies, Future Funk Squad, General Midi, Jhz, Koma & Bones, Lawgiverz, Mike Monday, Meat Katie, Mr Pauli, Octave One, Paul Woolford, Phil Kieran, Precision Cuts, Radioactiveman, Rennie Pilgrim, Rolando, Roxiller, Serge, Smithmonger, Speaker Junk, Steve Strawberry, Thomas Schumacher, Vigi, Will Saul, Zero
Heading out on a temporary techno tip over the coming months, the hand of kingpin will resolutely return to the bag of sonic pick ‘n mix that they rummage in so well. Future DJs will be revealed in due course. But rest assured, Kingpin only buys sweets from the finest purveyors.
It isn’t difficult to find a night where the crowd leaves in a state of exuberance, but it IS difficult to find a night where the DJ leaves in a similar state. This happens at Kingpin. No matter who is playing, be it international techno superstars, or local acts, there are only ever good words to be said at the end by all. Despite all this adoration, Kingpin doesn’t take itself too seriously. They have been known to host fancy dress nights (the scope for post-apocalyptic laughter is larger than you would first think), which never detract from the fact that the main reason everyone is there, is to listen to fine music, but instead confirm that the other reason everyone is there is to have an unsurpassed amount of fun.
This monthly club night, held on the second weekend in every month, was initially stationed at a cosy venue in Bristol, but capacity was soon exceeded and they moved swiftly on to somewhere more suitably obscure; Timbuk2.
Since it’s humble beginnings four years ago, Kingpin has blossomed from a bass line baby into a fully-fledged miniature audio-adult. Kingpin has learnt to tie its shoelaces. And they aren't coming untied any time soon.

What’s Crackin’ KINGPIN ? We’re hitting back our myspace folks to let you know that your prayers have been answered. What prayers, you may ask. Well, today my friends, the good reptiles over at Bossasaurus (namely the ones writing this message) have teamed up with Murs (Living Legends, Def Jux, 9th Wonder, etc.) to, for the first time ever, offer you a taste of our music with an emcee over them. If you hate emcees and were feeling the tranquility of our un-defiled instrumental works than we sincerely apologize for our critical error in judgment. Otherwise come on over and check out:
We hope you enjoy it. If you don't come thru and talk that sweet smack.
