I grew up in the small mountain town of Franklin, North Carolina and attended Franklin High School.
I received my BA in philosophy
from the University of North Carolina at
Asheville. I graduated from UNCA with
honors and received recognition as a
University Scholar and Distinction in
Philosophy. I received a MA in
philosophy and a JD (law degree) with a
concentration in business transactions from
the University of Tennessee. While in law
school at UT, I received 3 academic
excellence awards.
After law school, I worked for a
number of years as a trial lawyer in private
practice in Knoxville, Tennessee where I
focused primarily on employment law, personal
injury and workers compensation litigation. My family and I returned to North Carolina and moved to Harrisburg in 2001. I served for 3 years as a Trial Attorney for the Charlotte
District Office of the US Equal Employment
Opportunity Commission.
I am admitted to practice law in both North Carolina and Tennessee.
In addition to being an attorney, I am a North Carolina Dispute
Resolution Commission Certified Superior Court Mediator. I am also a Senior Faculty Member at DeVry University in
Charlotte where I regularly teach Employment Law,
Business Law, Negotiation Skills as well as other law related courses to graduate Human Resource,
Management and Project Management students.
I have also taught graduate Business Ethics at Wingate University.
