Kirk ‘Captain’ Brundage has been playing percussion since he was young. He started off with pots and pans before graduating to the garbage cans. In the school-band Kirk played the Violin but it always broke when he hit it. A self-described Indiana Jones of the drums, Kirk travels to exotic and dangerous places to bring back musical goodies. Kirk likes spicy food, strong coffee, good rum, spirited women and no he never wished he played the flute!
But seriously though, Kirk is part of a new generation of percussionists that has western training, but then immersed themselves in another culture. Kirk studied and played classical music in Europe as a Fulbright Scholar and then went on to play in Brazilian Carnaval with the world-famous Bloco Afro Olodum. He has shared the stage with drummer Stewart Copeland from the rock-band "The Police", and with Brazilian pop-star Daniela Mercury at the Latin Grammy's. Kirk teaches at UCLA, is an artist-endorser for REMO and will soon have 3 books published by Alfred.
