..2008 CMAA New Talent Winner. 2008 CMAA Female Artist Of The Year Finalist. 2007 Toyota Star Maker Winner. 2006 Telstra Road To Tamworth Songwriter's Award Winner.. .. .. My name is Kirsty Lee Akers, I'm 20 years old, I was born on 24th march 1988 in a little town called Kurri Kurri and still live there now. My mum and dad were pretty young when they had me, their names are Janine and Robert. I'm the eldest of four children, I have two brothers, Nathan - 19, Nigel - 12 and my sister Kaitlin - 9 (and yes we all have the same dad, I always get asked that maybe because there is such a huge age gap between the second two). My mum and dad got together when my mum was about 14, they fell pregnant with me when my mum was 16, my dad was 20 so I have pretty young parents. They lasted 20 odd years together but finally got sick of one another and separated nearly a year ago. .. .. I'm the kind of girl that believes in happy ever after, I'm very lucky I have my own "happy ever after" story so far… I have a gorgeous boyfriend, his name is Jesse, we have been together since we were 16, so he is my high school sweetheart. If you had asked me back then who I wanted to spend the rest of my life with, it would have been the latest guitar playing/ heartbreaker on the scene. I used to sit next to Jesse in roll call, he was the year below me in high school so that was the only time I would see him. I would always ask him to set me up with one of his best mates who I had my heart set on. I never ever thought back then we would be together now, I actually thought he was a bit of a wanker in high school. He would always go for the really skanky chicks and he would always call me Pocahontas which drove me crazy but somehow we ended up together. He isn't the type of guy that opens the door for me or plans romantic candle light dinners, I kind of like it that way. I don't mind that he isn't my mother's favourite person, or that I'm so crazy in love with him that some nights I spend hours crying and yelling at him for something really stupid that doesn't even make sense but I guess making up is the best part. We never go to sleep angry, no matter how angry I am at him I still have to let him know how much I love him. We're soul mates, where ever I go he goes (ok enough of that love crap!). We also have a beautiful little ridgeback/mastiff - her name is Millie, she is more like a child then a dog, she follows me everywhere, even to the toilet! I make her toast for breakfast every morning. .. .. I've been singing since I was 3 years old. I know that people find it hard to believe but it's true (I've got videos to prove it hehe). My mum, nan and aunties all sang when I was growing up so it's pretty much all I knew and I'm still doing it today. .. .. I'm not one of those girls that has lots of "girlfriends". I have had the one best friend since kindergarten, her name is Amy Muddle and I probably wouldn't be the same without her, but other than that I would much rather hang out with guys. Maybe its because they're a lot less bitchy, you can tell them that they have pissed you off and there over it 5 minutes later. I'm a very straight forward person, and I hate being around people that aren't. I hate how some people sugar coat everything and are lovely and friendly to your face and then talk about what a bitch you are behind your back, I think life's too short to hang around people you don't like so if I don't like someone I just don't make an effort to be their friend, that doesn't really help in this industry. When you first meet me I may come across snobby but I'm just really shy until you get to know me and then you won't be able to shut me up and before too long you will know my life story. I don't have any secrets, I always get into trouble for saying (revealing) too much! .. .. I have a secret obsession with Hannah Montana, I set my alarm every Saturday morning so I don't miss it on Saturday Disney, I could also talk for hours about "Home and Away"!. Sad I know but sometimes I feel like the characters in that show are my family lol ... I need to get out more I know! .. .. My fav movie is The Notebook, I know hundreds of girls say it but I really do think that movie was based on mine and Jesse's life. I love sad movies, hate action movies, I cry in movies all the time; I balled my eyes out in Charlotte's Web. If I had to choose my last meal it would be Deep fried chicken, chips and coke, and red tulip Easter eggs (I'm such a fat pig, if it ai'nt covered in fat I don't eat it). I hate vegetables, I've never even tried most of them, I've never tried tomato believe it or not. .. .. When I die I hope to go to Nashville, actually I want to go there now, its my fairytale place. I love Dolly Parton. I'm fascinated by her, not just by her boobes but everything about her, I think she is amazing. I think Shania Twain is the sexiest woman to walk the planet, I would definitely turn for her! I think Taylor Swift is one amazing talent, I'm not a huge fan of her voice but she is an amazing songwriter and performer, and what she has done already in her short life is unbelievable and she looks like she would be a lot of fun to hang out with! My favourite thing on earth is Christmas, it is the most amazing time of year, I get really sad when it's over, actually as I write this (5/3/09) I've just realized I've still got reindeer Christmas lights hanging up in my lounge room hehe. I also get really angry when I'm hungry (I believe it's a medical condition but no one else believes me). .. .. Well hopefully you know a bit more about me now and its not just the usually boring "Bio" stuff for you to read, but don't worry the Official Kirsty lee Akers "Bio" is below for you too read about my career etc (I just realized I called my bio boring - it's not, just a figure of speech) If you comment me or message me I do reply to all of them (or at least try to eventually) .. .. I hope you like my music .. .. xxx .. .. 'Better Days', the much anticipated release from Australian singer-songwriter Kirsty Lee Akers, sees the petite and cheeky 20-year-old drawing influences from her musical heroes Dolly Parton and Leann Womack to produce a world class contemporary country album that will appeal to fans of chart topping American stars Miranda Lambert, Kellie Pickler and Taylor Swift. .. .. Kirsty's second offering since winning Toyota Star Maker in 2007 (a talent search that has also launched the careers of Keith Urban, Lee Kernaghan & James Blundell) follows her successful debut 'Little Things' which earned her a CMAA (Country Music Association Of Australia) Golden Guitar Award for Best New Talent in 2008. The album features songs penned by Kirsty and an all-star list of country writers whose recent credits include the likes of Bon Jovi, Carrie Underwood, Jessica Simpson and Rascal Flatts. It was once again produced by Graham Thompson whose credits include hit albums by James Blundell, Adam Brand, Melinda Schneider & The Sunny Cowgirls. .. .. On 'Better Days' Kirsty demonstrates her growth as a songwriter with songs that tackle everyday topics and show an insight that belies her years. 'I Ain't Your White Picket Fence Girl' is a risqué romp that will inspire housewives around the country to pack the kids off to Grandma's and re-define their idea of evening entertainment. .. .. "I got the idea for this song one day when I was on the net looking for pumpkin recipes! My partner and I had moved in to a house with about 50 pumpkins in the garden so of course, I had to try to get rid of them and spent the whole day looking for pumpkin recipes. That's when I decided it was time I stopped doing things you're suppose to do when you're 60…stopped being a desperate housewife and started being young! I went a little bit crazy that night. The next day I took the idea for this song to my friend Trey Bruce and we came up with 'I Ain't Your White Picket Fence Girl'." .. .. 'All The King's Horses' is an infectious, straight talking break up song inspired by her best friend who, devastated at breaking up with her boyfriend, eventually realised he had actually done her a favour. The tough talking country-rocker 'I Get Even' is another co-write with Trey Bruce. "I've always been pretty feisty I guess. The same friend I wrote about in 'All The King's Horses' was going through a tough time in her love life and I started to think about what I would do in her situation. Let's just say, I wouldn't take it lightly! I think I'd be the sort of girl who emptied his bank account and trashed his car. I don't think I would leave quietly…I'd get even!" .. .. 'I Sleep at Night', written by Kirsty & Australian songwriter Mike Carr, is an acerbic account of betrayal and lost friendship that resonates with anyone who has been in that situation…"in this industry you soon find out who you friends are" admits Kirsty. .. .. The first single from 'Better Days' is 'Knocked Up', a tongue-in-cheek story about the serious topic of unplanned pregnancies. 'Knocked Up' was written by Angaleena Presley, who wrote several songs on 'Little Things" including the title track and 'The Territory'. As someone whose mother fell pregnant at 16 Kirsty was immediately drawn to the song and delivers it with the conviction of first hand experience. .. .. "This album is definitely more me. With my first album I was still figuring out who I was as an artist. I had never done an album before and we had a pretty tight deadline. With 'Better Days', I had a lot of time to really think about what direction I wanted to go in, more time to write songs. A lot of things have gone on in my life, so this album really tells stories about the different things that have been going on in my life over the past year. I was also a lot more involved in every aspect of the album, from song choice, production, right through to the album cover so it definitely is all me." .. .. Kirsty Lee Akers may stand a mere 148cm (4 feet Ten inches) tall but don't be misled by her diminutive size. She is brimming with talent and the right kind of attitude. .. .. "I've put my heart and soul into making this album. I have been totally honest in my song writing so the songs reflect my life and the things that have helped me grow as an artist and a young woman. I hope from listening to this album people will get to know me a little bit more and enjoy listening to it as much as I did making it!" .. ..
