Reminiscent of a Renaissance- era artist’s workshop, muffled sounds of chiseling, sanding and carving emanate from within. A combination of materials, primarily stone – alabaster, soapstone and marble - form the core of her award winning, museum- quality sculptures. Maureen Kirwen Huffman has perfected her craft with a refined juxtaposition of strength, elegance and inventiveness. Not afraid to attack the raw material, she possesses an almost innate ability to visualize the form captured within.
As you walk through her Gallery, you first notice the soaring cathedral ceiling, a heralding space for the artwork displayed in minimalist arrangement. The oversized Gothic windows drench the artwork and act as a pallet upon which the visitor is quickly drawn to the seductive shapes – organic forms with subtle feminine influences.
The stone sculptures, many accented with bronze, provoke varied emotive responses, compelling the viewer to tacitly explore the works, often with expressions of awe and wonderment. Check out our website at kirwenart.com
