GOSH
Holly (age 3)
Holly was given just three months to live after she was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy. This is a condition where the heart enlarges to three times its normal size. Holly’s only hope was a heart transplant and after a desperate appeal launched by her parents last summer, a suitable donor was found.
At just six months old Holly underwent a five hour transplant operation at Great Ormond Street Hospital. The operation went well and she celebrated her first birthday; a milestone her parents had feared she would never reach. Holly’s mum Karen is grateful to the family of Holly’s heart donor and the team at Great Ormond Street Hospital and says: “We felt in really safe hands with the doctors, nurses and play specialists whose support helped us through a really scary time.”
The Royal Hospital for Children in Bristol now cares for Holly and she also comes to London for regular check ups with Great Ormond Street Hospital specialists. Great Ormond Street Hospital is the largest centre for children with heart problems in the UK and last year 25 of a total 29 cardiothoracic transplants on children were performed at the London hospital.

Meningitis Research Foundation
Freya Barstow (19 months)
"This is the tragic story of how my healthy, beautiful 19 month old daughter, Freya, was taken from us in 11 days by pneumococcal meningitis.
"On 5 April 2005, Freya didn't seem herself. She had a high temperature and was a bit grizzly. At the time we thought she was just coming down with a cold but later that night she began to vomit, which continued the next day. We took her to the GP who gave her paracetemol to bring her temperature down. However, Freya didn't improve and became increasingly drowsy, so we took her to hospital.
"The consultant who saw us was sure Freya had a urine infection, but lunchtime the next day she had a fit. Now we were scared and knew something was seriously wrong, but the word meningitis didn't even enter our heads, as she didn't have a rash.
"Freya deteriorated rapidly from that point. That evening, pneumococcal meningitis was confirmed. We were transferred to the local Paediatric Intensive Care Unit. By this point, Freya was also suffering from kidney failure for which she needed dialysis.
"We were told Freya could die, be left brain damaged or pull through with no ill effects. But as the days past she didn't wake up and continued to suffer seizures. A CT scan showed wide spread brain damage, so our hopes of having Freya back the way she was disappeared.
"Our once healthy daughter was fading in front of our eyes. The consultants told us the kindest thing to do for Freya was to let her die in peace. They transferred us to a children's hospice where they removed the ventilator and let us say goodbye. She died in her daddy's arms 7 hours later.

SEVENis incredibly proud to present a night of laughs and brilliant musicianship with ADRIAN EDMONDSON and THE BAD SHEPHERDS!
Saturday May 23rd
"The Bad Shepherds play punk songs on folk instruments. Not as a gag, but because we really like the noise. We think the songs are better than people remember. We love folk instruments. It works.
We do songs by The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Stranglers The Jam, Sham 69, The Undertones, Talking Heads, Squeeze and others, even Kraftwerk! Alright, they're not all punk, but they come from roughly the same era.
We've mostly given the songs a kind of Celtic feel, and we've stuck in the odd reel and jig here and there. But occassionally we just thrash! I've always thought the excitement of a reel taking off is the nearest thing to the excitement of watching punk live in the 70's."
