ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN (www.kissmygasprotest.com)

After thinking of ways in which to give the American taxpayer a voice in this relentless assault on our the quality of lives, a group of concerned drivers decided to institute a national protest of the price of gasoline targeted towards the Federal Government and Big Oil entitled KISS MY GASS! The Protest.

Fact: Americans feel helpless regarding the soaring price of gasoline.

Fact: Oil analysts are predicting in some parts of the country (i.e. California), that the price for a gallon of gas will reach $6.

Fact: Americans are spending anywhere between 15 to 20 percent of their income on gasoline.

Fact: The quality of life for Americans continues to disintegrate with each fill-up.

Fact: The United States Government has presented no viable solution or even demonstrated a real willingness to address the concerns of the American people as it relates to the cost of gas.

Fact: The American people are tired of “dog and pony shows” in Washington, rhetoric, empty promises, and looks of bewilderment from our “missing in action” Representatives, whose car and gas allowance, and in most cases chauffeur, we pay for with our tax dollars.

Myth: There is nothing the American taxpayer can do about all of the above.

THE PROTEST

We are women and men. We are taxpayers and voters. We are members of the Republican, Democratic, Independent, Libertarian, Green, and Peace and Freedom Parties. We are white, black, Latino, Asian Pacific Islander, Native American and more. We are the employers and the employees. We are homeowners and renters and we are united.

We know that we do not have the power to lower gas prices but we are not without recourse. We repeat, we are not without recourse and will no longer sit idly by and watch our quality of life disintegrate each time we fill-up our gas tanks.

While pledging to cut down on our own personal dependency on oil, we will stand united against Big Oil and an incompetent Administration by collectively instituting rolling gas outs .

Each month, the KISS MY GASS! campaign will encourage drivers nationwide to silently protest the cost of fuel by refraining from buying one brand of gasoline.

In doing this, America's commuters are able to protest the high cost of gas, without creating further hardship in their lives.

Simultaneously, the KISS MY GASS! campaign encourages all participants to re-examine their own commitment to reducing their dependency on gasoline, one trip at a time.

The KISS MY GASS! campaign is not a solution to America's dependency on foreign oil. But it isn't a gimmick either.

The KISS MY GASS! campaign is dedicated to all of the drivers who have run out of gas, or almost ran out of gas. It's for the people who are now walking, biking, or using mass transit to get to work or school because they simply can't afford the cost of gas. This protest is for drivers who cringe at the thought of going to the gas station and have mastered the art of exactly how far they can go after the fuel gauge light comes .. they really have to get gas. This is for those people who can't afford to buy food because of the cost of gas and for all of those drivers who have broken down in tears screaming why, this campaign is for you.

It's simply answer to the helplessness and despair that that the American population feels with each trip to the gas station. It's a way to educate ourselves on becoming less dependent on gasoline, challenge our elected representatives and Big Oil, while telling them both to KISS OUR GASS! one “gas out” at a time.

The KISS MY GASS! campaign is a united effort. If the majority of America's drivers band together and participate in rolling gas outs , we can send a clear message of dissent. And while we know this campaign alone isn't going to make the price of gas go down, it represents millions of dollars that won't be going to one Big Oil company per month and it restores our voice of protest in a way that is both meaningful, to us the drivers, while telling the American government, “Yes, we can!”

Yes, we can tell Big Oil and an Incompetent Administration to KISS OUR GASS!

Who I'd like to meet:
  • WILL THIS CAMPAIGN LOWER GAS PRICES? - We'd be very surprised if it did.
  • WHAT DOES THIS CAMPAIGN DO EXACTLY? - Well, besides making you feel like you have a voice and the power to protest, it allows the country to unite on a single issue and collectively protest the price of gas.
  • WHAT IS A ROLLING GAS OUT - A term we coined to explain the effect of boycotting a different brand of gasoline each month on a national level.
  • WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS? - Because like you, we felt helpless at one time and wanted to come up with a way to encourage Americans to use less gasoline but also give them the opportunity to protest in a way that wouldn't create further hardships.
  • WHAT ARE THE SHORT TERM AND LONG TERM EFFECTS FROM A CAMPAIGN LIKE THIS? - Well, that depends on the American people. If we band together in large enough numbers, this campaign over time can significantly impact the amount of profits Big Oil makes. On the short term end, you'll feel better knowing that you're part of a concerted effort to protest gas prices. C'mon, doesn't KISS MY GASS! bring a smile to your face. At any rate, anything is worth a try at this point. Wouldn't you agree?
  • WHO IS THE TARGET OF THIS CAMPAIGN? - Big Oil and an Incompetent Administration.
