Kiss The Mistress have been playing together for two years and their debut CD and live performances have been described as having ' a restless unbridled energy' 'exceptional skill' 'extreme inventiveness ' 'verve' 'energy' 'fervour' 'emotion' 'haunting' and a 'stealthy beauty that weaves an enticing spell'
(these are all taken from our reviews!! thank so much to all our reviewers )
'Intriguing trio with unusual instrumental combination. The dynamic musicanship of Ginny Davis, John Ramirez and Roy Jones embodies a restless, unbridled energy that propels them skilfully through tunes with inventive time -signatures and vocal tracks that embrace retold legends and Gaelic waulking songs,' fRoots Mag Aug/Sep 2009
Their debut CD About Time is a bold, adventurous affair, the threesome delighting in banishing any preconceptions through the versatility of their approach....There's a splendid reworking of the folk standard Little Musgrave, with evocative use of mood and time signature. Elsewhere their austere and haunting arrangements should satisfy fans of the traditional while equally cheering those looking for something quirky and original; quite a balancing act.

The band is
Ginny Davis - Voice/‘cello/fiddle
Ginny started playing folk ‘cello as a teenager with a ceilidh band until she was replaced by a set of bass pedals! Throwing off her classical discipline at college she explored improvisation and jazz. She finally returned to her youthful passion for folk music, picking up fiddle and combining voice and ‘cello, which took considerable amounts of practice! Her playing has been described as ‘unusually energetic and dynamic’ and ‘there were moments when I felt your whole heart was in the music’
John Ramirez - Chromatic Button Accordion and Melodeon
A long standing musical partner of Ginny’s, John’s playing crosses the boundaries between melodeon and chromatic button accordion, and has strong roots in his earlier rock band experiences. He has developed his own unique style of playing that draws from Irish, European and Hispanic influences
Roy Jones - bodhran and cajon
Roy plays with a maturity and flair rarely found in one so young. Influenced by the great John Joe Kelly, he has developed his style to include more unusual time signatures on both cajon and bodhran. He is well known in East Anglia having won awards for best young folk musician at national folk festivals.
Many thanks for a terrific set at the club on Friday: stirring, spirited, and very original stuff! Sent a separate e-mail with details for promo, etc. Hope to see you soon. Best wishes, Kev
Well done 'kiss the mistress' for your great gig at Kontra Roots last night. Myself and Barry were both admiring your wonderful stage presence and prowess on your instruments. Pop down to Orpington Friday Folk sometime! Keep in touch..
Hi G&J, thanks for your message. We're still going and are going into a studio this Fri/Sat to record a little ep for posterity (sp?!). We'll then be ready for cambridge folk festival next year ;-) I've been building confidence doing some solo open mic nights which has been helpful. We're writing more songs together which are sounding really nice which we'll get up on myspace once they're recorded. Hope all is well with you all. Matt
Hope life is sweet with you all. Having a journey of waves and wildness here! Where are you guys now? Are you in France next month?? Blessings and love, Maria xxx
REALY SORRY to miss you at the Pump House tonight. Hope it was a good gig. I figured that I'd curl up in a sulky heap and keep whatever wretched virus I've got to myself. I was going to sing "Lady Margaret" for you which treat will have to wait for another time.
hey cheers, yep I know Otis. I like your music; So are you going to be up here next year then? There's two more cellists joining next year too! An invasion! You can hear me playing cello in my band Spinndrift on myspace. bye!
