my parents, of course. and everyone who has ever closed their eyes and jumped, knowing deep down in the pit of their stomachs that everything would be okay.
about joseph riley land
I'm re-writing it. This is my old shit.
Who is Joseph Riley Land? Besides his boyish good looks and his innate sense of humor, Joseph is the author of absolutely no books, although he is working on correcting that; he can't play poker for shit; he has an insatiable thirst for making the mundane interesting; he has been on entirely too many dates that have ended with a little puffy balloon over his head that reads, "what in the hell was I thinking?" and he loves the written word. That, my friends, is why he decided he wants to be a writer when he grows up. Hopefully, that is soon, as he is 30.
Joseph grew up in Olive Hill, Tenn., population: What? Six hundred? Maybe. On a day with no funerals and lots of births. He is a 1998 graduate of Sewanee: The University of the South, with a Bachelor's degree in English, a very strong minor in Political Science (missing a second BA by just one course credit) and a concentration in Black Studies. After graduating with that impressive resume, he went on to wait tables at Tony Roma's, followed by a slew of other odds and end jobs that both bored and frustrated the living hell out of him. In 2006 he decided to make some changes, packed up his life and left Atlanta for New York City. Harlem to be exact. And that is where he is today, living and loving and writing and doing that whole starving artist thing to some degree. And, as always, looking for more work. Anybody need a freelance writer?
And as an addendum to this bio, I would be remiss not to mention that Joseph not only loves music, he breathes it. Check out any artist he has listed as a friend and you will discover a new world, if you don't already know the likes of Brown Baby Girl or Albright or any of the myriad of artists he supports so whole-heartedly. He doesn't like shitty music either, so you can be assured that if you're following his suggestion, you are not making a misstep. As a good friend of his used to say all of the time until Joseph stole it from him, "Get into it."
Oh Joe..you know how folks iz...one day red..one day blue..very few keep their interests..marriages get boring - friendships wane, people switch to whichever team is winning..always looking for something new and never getting satisfied...you know how 'they' do. LOL
