One Jump Ahead began in 1984 as "the Kit Packham Band", playing their first ever gig in a Deptford pub. The drummer sat in the fireplace and bassist had to step out of the way every time someone wanted to use the gents. (Alan Savage and Glynn Evans - 2 of our friends - were the original drummer and bassist on that gig). They became so successful that within a year the DHSS fraud squad had caught up with bandleader Kit Packham and stopped him claiming unemployment benefit. Throughout the band's long history the core of their repertoire has been jump/jive material from 1940s & 50s American bands, Louis Jordan's in particular. These days they take in Rat Pack songs, jazz standards, 60s soul, rock'n'roll, Latin and Packham's own material which can be in any of the styles mentioned, although the lyrics usually have a more modern take on the world. For further information see the band's official web site at www.onejumpahead.co.uk.

"At last a follow up to Janette Mason's sparkling debut as leader. Alien Left Hand ....was well worth the wait…” Production **** Performance**** -- BBC Music Magazine
“…an album fizzing with fresh ideas and delights, an exhilarating musical journey .. with brilliantly original writing and inspired playing…” -- Helen Mayhew
"Every track from the rhythmic ‘NY Cab Ride’ and restless ‘4 Wheel Drive’ to the brooding ‘Mae’s Song’ has a terrific hook but it’s the way Mason switches tempo and moods that makes ALH great fun. " -- Diva Magazine
Thank you for your comments and thanks for being a friend to Joe Stanley. Joe influenced and mentored many DC-area musicians. His spirit lives on in our hearts through his music.
