Influences
Here for you are just a few of the artists that helped to bring you the sound of Kittie Perm. From these people we steal sounds, techniques, ideas, and anything else that gets us inspired.
The three years that Miko Tolliver and Ian Hamill have been playing music together has been the prime example of two bohemian music thieves on guitar jam override. From their initial meeting working as San Francisco music analysts in 2006 through their runs as local guitar teachers, the two have fused the approach of jazzy soul songwriting with earthy and warped guitar leads for a bewitching rhythm with all the perks of pirated love. Outlined and improvised, Kittie Perm is the Oakland based female-fronted addition to the Black Rock and guitar jam arenas, stressing the importance of colors, solos, and poetry. The trappings of two guitars and a soul rock singer are just the basics of Kittie Perm and the live performance is a twitch revival of brown sorts.
Creative Writing and Film Studies majors, respectively Miko and Ian have both mastered their musical techniques as well as expanded them to various other art mediums. With Ian’s background in Brazilian music and eccentric interests, such as the Didgeridoo, the duo is a constant multi-instrumentalist sample of genres, beats, and styles. Always led by the songwriting and musical ideas of Miko who has worked with the likes of Dawn Robinson from 4 Non Blondes, Rusty Allen from Sly and The Family Stone, and Dwayne Wiggins of Tony! Toni! Toné!
Working the independent scene of the San Francisco Bay Area, Kittie Perm has performed at countless local venues, including:
The Oakland Metro
The Rockit Room
Red House Live Studios
Retox
The Social Club
