Kelechi Jaavaid pronounced (Kay-Lay-Kee Jah-Vaid) is better known as KJay in the stand-up comedy circuit. This multitalented artist has been blazing the Twin Cities and the nation, with his stand-up comedy talent. Showcasing all across America and most recently came back from, California Comedy Festival with two thumbs up, and was invited to return to all the major comedy club. K Jay has developed his witty and hilarious style locally at Acme Comedy Club; he was a 2007 finalist and a 2006 semi-finalist. This rare type of artist self produced a one man act in the Minnesota Fringe Festival titled K Jay and Late Nite Poet where he gives you two for one mixing poetry and comedy to make cometry. The foundation of his comedy roots were first recognized at the Brave New Workshop with a full scholarship in improv and sketch writing. From there he made rounds as a opener for various BET comics such as Finesse Mitchell, Deon Cole, Tyler and other great urban comics. But never one for limiting his ability he’s often asked to perform both genre’s in college shows and coffee shops. K Jay has also co-produced a spokenword CD titled "The Art of Life" with Keith Porter former member of George Clinton and the P-funk. And is currently finishing his book titled K Jay and latenitepoet, 2 for 1. If he had to choose between the two art forms he would rather see people laugh; because a really good joke can make you laugh and think, just like a happy hour that gives you 2 for 1.

The old school trained me; comics like Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx, Robin Harris, George Carlin, Ron White, Lewis Black, Mom’s Mabaley, Dolomite, George Wallace, but most importantly my dad, and just real folks of all kinds, teaching me the game of life.
K jay, Asa Thibodaux and Kevin Craft perform in " Whopper Freakout Ghetto Version." By C.J., Star Tribune Three Minnesota comedians have done an over-the-top version of Burger King’s "Whopper Freakout" commercials. The language used by K jay, Kevin Craft and filmmaker Asa Thibodaux, in a co-starring role, is not for children. However, Thibodaux said, the 3-week-old spoof has already attracted more than half a million Web hits. When asked if there was a version that’s not as naughty, Thibodaux laughed and said, "That’s funny. Not yet. We have people who say, You actually made me want to go get a Whopper. You know the crazy part, people in corporate America [have tuned into it]. My fiancée, Stacey, and I Googled it the other day. We sat there for an hour and, if you type in ’Whopper freakout ghetto,’ there were 20 something pages and people were leaving comments saying, I had my entire floor laughing. It’s not for the work environment but we were playing it anyway." And then Thibodaux apologetically noted: "There’s a lot of cursing on it." Yes, that’s hard to miss. Thibodaux said he curses "a little bit but I wrote [my lines] beforehand." K jay and Craft were not afforded that option. "I said, ’Hey, I’m doing this now, if you want to be a part of it, come on.’ So they were rushing," said Thibodaux. Craft, "Hey, I’m the guy with the braids, the whiney one," said he had "no idea" how Burger King feels about the spoof. "They haven’t contacted Youtube.com and said take it down or anything. People [commenting on it] say Burger King’s got to be happy." Probably because it’s "free publicity," said K jay, who’s in the baseball cap: "It was improvised. I came up with the idea of releasing hostility [through] comedy. We are not into the stereotypes; we just thought it would be fun to do a ghetto version."

K Jay is looking forward to a super year in comedy, as you all well know the entertainment business is very much like the pro sports. You gotta play the game until you catch a break; keep your self humble and hungry for the right opportunities, most importantly you got to have fun with the journey, but I love making people laugh and think. My goal is to have material that audiences can always remember me by something they can relate too. Like the war ain’t George Bush fault it’s the first lady’s fault, cause she the first one to deal with his stupidity, maybe she should have tried some different things like Monica did to President Bill Clinton. I’m just sayin, maybe he wouldn’t be so angry. Maybe if she would have brought him a lie detector for his birthday 8 years ago all the votes would have counted, and bill collector would have less people to call, I’m just sayin.

General
I'm a performing artist and I believe my story is just as important as the next person. Being a Stand-up comic every other night; I get to try and make the world a better place to live in by helping people release endorphins the chemicals that make your brain healthier. My goal is to be a very successful comedian and filmmaker. I love playing with words as a writer and performer, and I like networking with people in the industry.
One of the best things to be said about the Internet is that cyber communication opens avenues for gifted artists who, otherwise, would be stymied trying to penetrate mainstream media. Accordingly, someone like ace comic K Jay enjoys richly deserved success. Principally, there is the video outlet YouTube.com, electronic vanity press where anyone’s housecat can get play, yet proven pros like California she-devil cut-up Jo Mani, or national Twin Cities-spawned name Fancy Ray McCloney build on already strong followings. YouTube.com is also where you’ll find the delightfully gifted K Jay doing his thing. Swing by his constantly visited website www.myspace.com/kjay02 for laugh-yourself-into-a-hernia hilarity. It is a foolproof prescription for whatever might ail your funny-bone. For openers, the cyber-space hit video Whopper Freakout, having long since passed the half-million mark in views, is on this site. It was written and performed by The Rejected Brotherz Of Comedy a/k/a K Jay with Kevin Craft and Asa Thibodaux. The trio also showcases A Brother In The White House and Whopper Freakout (Music Video). It’s Hard Being Tall captures K Jay’s most effective offering a couple years ago at the internationally renowned Minnesota Fringe Festival. And his strong set for last summer’s MN Fringe at Patrick’s Cabaret is worked into the winning bit, Killing Them Comedically, filmed at Goonies Comedy Club (Rochester, MN). There is plenty more big fun to boot. Congrats Jared (K Jay Goes Off!) is the only loser in an extensive offering. Here, a dyed-in-the-wool professional, who nine times out of 10, can be trusted to rely on true, demonstrated wit, surprisingly slings more gratuitous foul language in the first few seconds than you need to hear in the video’s whole three minutes. So, he ain’t perfect. But, bottom line, K Jay consistently kills with dry, cutting wit --a top-shelf talent. The proof of the pudding, it goes without saying, is to catch this cat in the act. Each time this reviewer has had the pleasure; I’ve left in hysterics. So, consider this a personally engraved invitation to go right ahead and have yourself a real good time the very next time you get word K Jay is out and about within your vicinity. Heads up: he is well known to show up at Poco Loco Lounge, situated in the main dining room at popular South Minneapolis eatery Pepito’s (48th Street on Chicago Avenue); and he drops by The Blue Nile (2027 E Franklin Ave South, Mpls) to sit in at Desdamona’s packed-house magnet Poet’s Groove. As well, he gigs at Goonies Comedy Club, Acme Comedy Club and quite a few more top spots throughout the Midwest, in NYC and L.A. Homeboy is off on the road, just this minute, to Chicago and St. Louis. Fear not, he’ll be back knocking Twin Cities crowds out. Check www.myspace.com/kjay02 for exactly when and to view some cold-blooded videos. Bottom line, K Jay most definitely is in strong effect. Whopper Freakout Ghetto Whopper Freakout Ghetto by The Rejected Brothas of Comedy a/k/a K Jay, Kevin Craft, Asa Thibodaux is so slammin’ that there’s three versions up on K Jay’s MySpace page. Whopper Freakout Ghetto (Uncut), I’m telling you right now, isn’t for sensitive ears. There’s a whole lot of cussin’. The characters are well-crafted, so, it’s not cussin’ for cussin’s sake. However, there is a reasonably savory and certainly more family-oriented rendition, Whopper Freakout 2.0 and Whopper Freakout (Music Video). Whopper Freakout Ghetto (Uncut), for the most part, is a riotous gem. The premise: how much sand would soul folk raise if Burger King suddenly stopped selling The Whopper? The execution: thumbs up. You got the savvy veteran, K Jay, doing one of his tightest characters, an annoyed brotha who’s clean cut, agreeable and the whole nine, but not taking no shorts when it comes to chowin’ down. K Jay comes up with some inventively colorful descriptions of what Burger King can do with its Whopper-less policy. The more he goes on, gradually getting hotter and hotter under the collar, the more you can relate, putting yourself in his shoes, laughing hard as tough times. Fresh young talent Kevin Craft shines, enlivened by whiplash punch lines and showing more ability with deadpan than the law should allow. Craft artfully portrays the archetypal youngblood out of the hood – conniving, even resorting to cordiality and determined to one way or the other get his favorite grub on. Between K Jay and Kevin Craft, just about the whole thing is funny as all get out. Regrettably, K Jay and Kevin Craft are saddled with Asa Thibodaux. Thibodaux, the woefully ineffectual, has all the timing of a dollar-store wristwatch, and even less presence. Thibodaux is Whopper Freakout’s weakest material. His routines put you to sleep faster than Sominex. Ultimately, K Jay and Kevin Craft kill. Accordingly, you’re in excellent comedic hands with Whopper Freakout Ghetto.
Music
I love Jazz and R&B. I'm also a spokenword artist. I have this cd on my space; check it out on my other site www.myspace.com/kjay01. music is one thing that connect human beings globally. I like raggae and hip-hop too, but I tend to get into the more lyrically conscious artist.
Movies
The Pursuit of Happiness, with Will Smith and his son was an awesome.
Television
I like the stand-up comedy on Comedy Central, and I like TV ONE with Who got Jokes hosted by Bill Bellamy, I love girlfriends Traci-Lee Ross, and of course I'm a big NBA fan. I just think TV is way to violent sometimes so I limit my TV intake.
Books
The mis-education of the Negro, by Carter G Woodson, God the blackman and the truth, Everlasting life, by Ben Amni, Comedy Writing secrets by Mel Helitzer with Mark Shatz, Comedy Bible by Judy Carter. Pryor Confessions by Richard Pryor.

Women expect big things.
