Drummer and percussion player from Sweden, living in Stockholm and San Francisco. Working in following groups: Nacka Forum, Exploding Customer, MZN3, School Days, Katzen Kapell, Stockholm Low Dynamic Orchestra, Goran Kajfes Headspin, Alberto Pinton Quintet, Torbjörn Zetterberg Octet.
I'm dividing my time between Stockholm and San Francisco and lately I've learned to know the scene in the Bay Area. I'm going back and forth between Europe and The United States, trying to enjoy the pros and cons with both worlds.
Besides the bands I regularly work with I have also played together with Peter Brötzmann, Barry Guy, Gerry Hemingway, Marilyn Crispell, Fred Lonberg Holm, Torsten Müller, David Stackenäs, Fredrik Ljungkvist, Lindha Kallerdahl, Thurston Moore, Live Maria Roggen, Jim O'Rourke, Stefano Scodanibbio, Michiyo Yagi and Frank Gratkowski. Most of the 90's was dedicated to the group AALY Trio which Mats Gustafsson and I started already in mid 80's. The two other members in that group (actually a quartet) was Peter Janson-bass, and Ken Vandermark-reeds.
I have also been working with theatre and dance productions, both as musician and composer. Choreographer Nathalie Ruiz and I started Co. Alba in 1994. Co. Alba has over the years created more than ten different dance productions. Theatres I have worked at are Stockholms Stadsteater, Riksteatern, Orionteatern and the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm.
In San Francisco I've more and more learned to know the free improvised music scene, and musicians I've played with here are Larry Ochs, Jon Raskin, George Cremaschi, Damon Smith, Scott Looney, Greg Goodman, John Ingle, Aram Shelton, Darren Johnston, Lisa Mezzacappa and David Slusser among others.
During 2008 I have been working together with film maker and educator Katharine Gin on an exhibition in connection to the 15-year anniversary of WritersCorps, an organisation which places professional writers in community settings to teach creative writing to youth. My work has been involving soundwork for eleven short films portraying youth poets in San Francisco as well as a number of sound recordings of youth reading their own poetry. The exhibition, titled This Place Called Poetry, was shown at the San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery in San Francisco between November 7 and January 24.
