K.John is a native of Kingston Jamaica, born march 25th 1983. This child of the 80’s was heavily influenced by the music of this era and chose hip hop as his channel to speak to the world. After leaving Jamaica with older brother Sadike in august of 1996, K.John moved to Pembroke Pines Florida which aside from serving as his home away from home, was the place where his love for hip hop became all the more apparent. Moving to Duluth, Georgia in 1997, gave him a closer connection to hip hop and the rhythms and culture of the south gave him an even deeper understanding of why he was meant to express his thoughts through the art of beats and rhymes. After falling victim to the pressure of youth, and subsequently getting into “trouble”, He moved back home to JA in Februrary of 1999.
It was at this point that his love for hip hop became more than just a love and he decided to express his feelings through rap. The arrival or older brother Sadike to Jamaica the following year led to the formation of Wall$treet, a collective of friends, with the intention to stake their claim in the music industry both locally and internationally. Wall$treet consisted of emcees Julio Sluggz, Joey Meggz, Hunka Gold formally Don-One and Deejays Bad Breed and John Vito, along with a young but talented beyond his years, K.John. Wall$street became apart of a small but talented local hip hop scene, their first taste of the microphone came at the hands of Blunt aka Trelle, from the then legendary Keystone, who was among Wall$treet’s first producers, along with Mainsource, Wallabee and Daseca. In 2001 K.John made a move to England, to pursue training in sound engineering and music technology, with an intention to complete Wall$treet’s dream of opening their own studio.
Fast forward to 2004, Gambling House Recording Studio is born and was now the home of Wall$treet, a place where their musical vision would later come to light. One such vision was to eventually get into production and broaden their musical horizons as not only artistes but composer, writers and arrangers. K.John emerged as one of Gambling House recording Studio’s most sought after engineers and his work can be heard on many of their releases. After releasing a series of mixtapes known in the streets as “that piff”, but officially called Highstakes volumes 1 – 3, K.John decided to venture out on his own with a solo mixtape called Kingstown. A patriotic ode to the place he calls home, and to the place that made him the man he is today. He is currently working on his full length effort titled My Own, which features many of Wall$treet’s more popular lyricists as well as a few affiliates. Beats will be provided by A-list local hip hop producers, Street Racer M from DEP, Inztinkz, Mainsource, Wallabee and more.
K.John describes his brand of hip hop as “Street shit from the heart, that shit that goes deep into your soul”. A truly refreshing sound in a time when hip hop is undoubtedly at one of its worst moments yet, don’t be surprised if after listen to his music, you remember everything you grew to love about the art form, it is said to have that effect on the listener. His music is shaped by the influences of legendary reggae producer Sir. Coxsone Dodd, reggae crooner Beres Hammond, the late Garnett Silk, reggae singer Naptali and his Grand fathers Woodrow Johnston and Carlos Lincoln just to name a few. As far as hip hop goes, K.John lists his influences as 2Pac, Big Punisher, Snoop Dogg, The Notorious B.I.G. and AZ among others.
