I read a lot. That's why I'm blind as a bat. My near-sightedness is something I embraced long ago. I love music, movies, and all things pop culture and I'm a total politico too, so I sit around on Sunday drooling at George Stephanopoulous. If I were the type I could totally stalk him now that I live so close. But I won't I promise.
I love 90s pop music. We're talking all genres--cheesy norweigan dance hits, adult alternative, grunge rock. I especially dig the one-hit wonders. With my recent iPod tragedy, I am living with a very truncated version of my music collection (quiet sobbing) but I love The Decemberists, Patty Griffin, much of what the Indie Rock world is churning out at the moment, Rilo Kiley, and the new Panic at the Disco (sans exclamation). That album just puts me in an excellent mood.
And I had to include the king of Indie...Sufjan Stevens. This video is pretty old but his cover of Innocence Mission's "Lakes of Canada" for La Blogotheques' Take Away Shows is awesome and has become one of my favorite songs.
Movies
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington changed my life and may have contributed to my love of marble domed buildings. I'm a total sucker.
Television
The West Wing...I'll miss you. You made TV smart. Too bad Aaron Sorkin couldn't continue that kind of brilliance but at least I have my DVDs.
Now, let's all take a moment and send a little love to The Office. Great Show.
Books
All things Austen, Rowling, and Fforde (he's Welsh, he can't help that his name is spelled that way). As a recovering English major I love all things literary so everything from Beowulf to modern poetry is okay in my book. As for the political science half of my soul, that space is reserved for the greatest of thinkers so anything having to do with the Constitution and its legal ramifications are okay by me.
Heroes
Abraham Lincoln was a great and flawed man who deserved the accolades and memorials in his honor. I went to the memorial a few nights ago and almost cried. Its no accident that his words will forever appear on my person.

About me: I've abandoned California after 25 years of life and have moved to the great, if not tiny state of Maryland to get a PhD. Pretty amazing for a girl who grew up on food stamps and free lunch.
My mind aspires for cerebral greatness but I love entertainment news and trivial garbage as much as I love the current political campaigns and no matter where I wind up in life, I promise to never stop reading the comics page on Sunday.
Who I'd like to meet: Barack Obama fascinates me. His resolve and idealism is something not too often seen in Washington and I admire that immensely. I can't wait for him to be President. I would follow that man anywhere.
Karl Rove, because he's an evil Republican genius who has officially worn out his welcome. Time to move to the private sector my friend. Nobody wants you around anymore. Political poison. Way to avoid a Congressional hearing you crafty bastard!
