Her mom sang for her while she was in the womb. Yeah, there we're some great gigs in there...as far as she can remember.... too many influences to list.... Soundtracks, the sea and seagulls, underground local rock bands, singer-songwriter stuff from pre-69, 80s pop, amazing and obscure hardcore and punk festivals like dp, some ladida rnb, indie and east coast hip hop records were lovingly forced on her tinitus hearing by caring brother Olav. She recognizes him as her walking music reference library. Then there was also the boyband stage, and it had to be Nirvana. Kari's mom gave her songs by the unofficial queen of iceland and also the band behind lovefool, while KK's dad played Mrs.Robinson and all those songs by that beautiful duo over and over and over (cont.) in the car... And then at fourteen, Miss Hepburn gave Kari a little black and silver tape of some simple recordings of vocals and accoustic guitar that became a tape she says she would not have traded for life in a pink tropical sea. Hence, with many wonderful audio gifts, she didn't need to buy a lot of records. At the moment she feels influenced by her friends in music and their gigs, and the free thought of all amazing people who ARE ART through their generous, enlightened lives.

Well Well Well Welcome To My space... not much I can say...my name is kari, I'm from all over the world (Japan, US, UK, Spain...) but my hometown is beautiful seaside town, Kristiansand, in Norway (come visit!! We have some great local music). Some people call me kk or my DJ name princess khan, but on this site i am focusing my forces on the music which is kari kleiv. I like all kinds of music. And music is in the strangest places sometimes, like the sound of the washing machine, people talking in a deli, rain... though for more constructed music, I am more into the individual song/piece/work. I like creativity (all kinds), art (all kinds). Film, design and music are my main loves. BIOGRAPHY BY FIERCE PANDA: Some people live life to the full. Others to the fuller, and then some...Kari Kleiv falls into the latter category. Aspiring actress and heartwarmingly fine singer-songwriter, Kari was born in Kristiansand on the southernmost tip of Norway and has subsequently lived in Virginia, Los Angeles, and Japan. Along the way she has been the face of Minolta in the Far East and an aid worker in the slums of Manilla. Now, rather handily for the Fierce Panda Records A&R budget she resides near murder mile in Hackney. And she has crammed all of the above paragraph into her freshface. If she were living the life of the spoilt jetsetter she could come across as an insufferable fool, luckily for Kari, a bohemian upbringing (her father is a renowned film producer and her mother's own music dabblings) meant that the Kleiv offspring has turned out a sweetly dippy, gently unhinged soul with hippy leanings and happy/sad songs aplenty. The last six months have seen Kari stealthily working the London underground scene. Backed by a motley crew of low key music characters and armed with an acoustic guitar she picked up in the Philippines for ten pounds, Kari's charmingly intimate live soirees at venues such as Kings Cross Water Rats, Charing Cross Borderline and the ICA recently won the big hearts and small wallets of Fierce Panda Records.
Fierce Panda released a Kari Kleiv single ("When Can I See You/ Now" - ning 166 7"). In August Kari played at Fruitstock in Regents park in front of thousands of festival-goers, Kulturbraueri in Berlin in September, Mono in Oslo in November and Notting Hill Arts Club this year.

- The project was about trying to explore different poetry styles, always with different instrumentations and musical structures because I don't want to repeat a single one - An album not directly linked to the four previous ones, but with the impossible to avoid come back to fetish themes - Second Life is about the technological phenomena, but I got better things to do with my life than spending it on the clone of a capitalist society - We might as well hope for a real bankrupcy for all of us, it would be worth it to kill capitalism
