The Klezbillies play progressive Klezmer music, fusing elements of traditional jewish music (think Hava Nagila) with bluegrass, Celtic and folk songs. The result is an enjoyable mix of highly listenable yet danceable tunes, suitable for weddings, bar mitzvahs, and gatherings of all sorts. Featuring a line up of Chico celebs, the Klezbillies boast some of the best talent in the north State: multi instrumentalist Sid Lewis has toured with Joe Craven, and plays banjo, mandolin and dobro. Clarinetist and Tai Chi instructor Julie Quarterman provides virtuosic melodies and variations. Bassist Scott Gunderson plays intricate klezmer bass with mathematical precision, and lead guitarist Brad Jolliff rounds out the group with rich chords and acerbic wit. Their sound has been described as “exotic and fun” (Synthesis magazine), and “the ultimate backyard band!” (klezmer review).
