Originally from Sheffield, the duo who formed KLONEZ UK were cousins and best mates. Their mutual interest in tinkering with electronics, and music resulted in their attraction to the the early sounds of what came to be known as "new wave."
"We were very influenced by the daily sounds which dominated our environment", explains Algy. "The clang and hiss of the steel mills was a great influence on our early material."
While "Birds" was only a regional hit for the duo, the track became one of those "lost treasures" of the era, bringing the group worldwide acclaim even long after their eventual parting of ways.
When the cousins reconnected after individually relocating stateside, promoter John Simon Ritchie (a longtime fan of the duo) suggested they record some new material. His intervention resulted in their first collaboration in 20 years.
The Field Guide To Western Birds! The Angel Dust! The Miniature car! The fake Ray Milland Head! I was already laughing before I even listened to Fast Carz and realized your sounds are Fab!
Hey there, thanks for the add request...like what I hear here very much! Haven't heard your stuff before, though...so, thanks for bringing it to my attention! Am I right in understanding that while these recordings are maybe new, you guys actually date in some way back to the eighties? Just judging by the "first collaboration in twenty years" comment...
That line "On wings of gossamer, I flew too close to her" always used to make me cry as a teenager. It's just so beautiful. I had a poster of you above my bed and I saved all my money for a plane ticket to England to look for you, but by the time I had saved enough, I was much more into Bauhaus so I just "hung out" with Peter Murphy instead.
Sorry for the double postcard...good'old Myspace and its "technical problems". Anyway, bravo pour la musique...I'm already pretty hooked up on "Birds".
I hearz you wankerz are going to finally release yer cover of the rarely heard song "Quantico". Somewhere, I think I still have a cassette of you playing it live at Danceteria at your only ever NYC appearance in 1980. I believe Ann Magnuson accompanied you on vocalz. Iz it tru?
