With a little over two years under their belt, the band KnecKDown has already accomplished way more than leader Jay Shell ever expected. " Its very crazy to look back and see what we have done in this two years" Shell says. "We've been very blessed and fortunate to have met a lot of folks that have helped spread the music". Spreading the music has been exactly what they have done in what is considered a very short time. "At last count we have handed out or sold a little over 5,000 cd's". "All have been our demo cd, while we have been working on our first full length album for a little over a year now". It should be finished by the end of January 09.
Shell and partner Chris Austin first began KnecKDown in 2002 in Rome, GA. They spent weekends doing openers before finally landing their own gigs. "It was in late 2005 when we really began to have some success" Shell adds. " I had been writing songs since I first picked up three chords on the guitar. We finally decided that we were going to begin playing more originals and see how it goes." " I knew we had something going on when I received an email from a guy in New Jersey. He had found our profile on myspace and stopped to take a listen. His email said that when he heard our song 'Country Home' it brought tears to his eyes because it brought back memories of this father that had passed away just weeks earlier".
By Spring of 2006 Jay and Chris were selling out a small venue in Rome and decided it was time to add to the band. The addition of Dave Harper on lead guitar, Shannon Wilson on bass, and Derrick Ingram on drums proved to be a hit and the band played their first full band show in Sept of 2006.
Over this two year span the band has supported and shared the stage with such acts as Zac Brown Band, Francisco Vidal, Cowboy Mouth, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Corey Smith, Marshal Tucker Band, Sister Hazel, and Georgia Satelites. When asked if he ever imagined KnecKDown would have been able to do such things in the last two years Shell just smiled." Words cannot express how grateful and blessed I am to have been able to do these things," Shell adds. " But It has never been about accomplishing things. We have just tried to play music and write songs the folks can relate too, while staying true to who we are. The one thing I am most proud of is that all five of us are good guys. I am surrounded by 4 great guys that love music and I am blessed to have them standing next to me night after night.
While we wait for the much anticipated first full length album that should arrive in January 09 it will be interesting to see what this beloved group of guys accomplish next. One thing is certain. KnecKDown will be somewhere spreading the music and sharing some smiles. " That is what it's all about," Shell observes. "Meeting new folks and touching their lives in what I hope is a positive way."
