Happy New Year to you, hope you'd a good holiday & the words are coming. Me, most of my efforts are going into a blog nowadays - long rambling theses on the nature of the core subject. Went from 14-line stanzaic nuggets to 2000 words of introspection & debate. I need to stop reading so much. Hope to see you around at readings, if I ever make any, in Manchester. Take care.

    Hey you!

Next POETS AND MASH will be...

    Monday 20th October
    7.30pm
Matt and Phred's, Tib St, Manchester

Your queer vegan poet host DOMINIC BERRY presents brand spanking new Poetry Performance from some of Manchester's rising poetry stars

    SHIRLEY MAY
... the legendary star of Manchester's stunning speakeasy night, Shirley May was winner of the North West Poetry Slam in October '99 and then part of the successful North West poetry tour SISTA TALK. As a performer, mentor, poet and spokesperson, Shirley is a true inspiration.

    RACHAEL K
... an intensely moving and deep artist, Rachael K has become known as a multi instrumentalist, singer, actress and skilled crafter of words, however this set will be focusing on her exceptionally stirring spoken word works. An exploration of trans identity in the city, this provocative and emotional performance is not to be missed.

    MIA DARLONE
... hilarious comic performer coming to POETS AND MASH fresh from her successful show 'Below the Belt', creator of such characters as Cockney Rhyming Slag and the flirty therapist, Mia's work is very funny and very insightful. Quickly building a strong reputation across both the comedy and poetry circuits, a show from Mia will always entertain.

Proving Art and Entertainment can be one, POETS AND MASH is an evening of love, laughter and lyrical language. Artists already established on Manchester's thriving poetry circuit take new work to a new night that examines and explores the depths of city lives. Expect a stimulating yet accessible marrying of page and theatre.

POETS AND MASH presents to you some of the most exciting spoken word artists in Manchester today. Not to be missed!

Hi it's jackie doin an advert hope you don't mind ...

    behind central library in Manchester,
    on Monday afternoons,
People who are or have been mental*
sit in a room and write poems
and laugh and read and share.

It’s not like school or nowt and you don’t have to be particularly into poetry, just into expressing yourself.

Here’s the details if you fancy coming:

    2pm-4pm
    Mondays
In The Friends Meeting House behind central library (use the bootle st entrance on the left of the building, press the buzzer marked ‘common word’

    *What do you mean, mental?
Oh we mean it very loosely, We certainly won't make you prove you've undergone distress! The point rather is that in the group, you don't have to worry about people getting all wriggly with taboo if you do mention anything that people often think is too mad sad or bad to listen to.
You don't have to censor anecdotes you tell so they don't disturb people, you don't have to lie about your past for fear of being judged, and if you *have* to wear a tin foil hat to feel comfortable that day we'll understand!

hey Michelle, you should check out the short story I have up when you get time.
    i think you'll like it.
