Born in New Mexico, Matthew experienced a uniquely varied childhood, frequently flying with his father and enjoying the thrill and exhilaration of both conventional and acrobatic flying. It was in his youth that he found himself easily drawn to the beat of poetic rhythm and movement, and he soon began experimenting with the musical styles of his early influences.
Much of his music embodies the feeling and freedom of flight.
Growing up a rebellious "wild child" he began singing and playing with numerous bands. He has been the driving force as lead vocalist and enjoying his job as the 'front man' known for his distinctive and powerful voice. Although originally shy in his role as lead vocalist, Matthew emerged as a powerful performer. Believing strongly in the importance of style and fashion, his artistic direction shaped much of his earlier image.
The poetic imagery that characterizes his writing has become the perfect complement to his music so closely intertwined with the classic representation of the rebellious desires that define rock. As a singer and songwriter, he’s moved ahead at speed developing new creative landscapes and using his voice as an instrument rather than just a sounding board for lyrics. His music has been described as being powerful, beautiful, haunting, and sometimes gentle, playful, soothing and breathtaking. His voice has the ability to convey the most subtle emotional overtones combined with a distinctive phrasing style.
His love for music is felt by those that enjoy his inspired lyrics and rich productions combining great power and emotion. His inspiration is derived from a wide palette of musical colors, his ears tuned to a wide range of influences spanning all genres of music including classical, rock, pop, blues, soul, R&B, and all of the great bands that remain the 'best of the best'.
"For me, the DNA started with classical music, then came the blues from the 1930's, later English groups like Led Zeppelin and then soon after Bostonians Aerosmith. Now pop, rock, country... they all crossover and they are all synonymous". His countless influences are present in everything he writes, and in his heart they all remain immortal!
His melodic songs are dynamic; rich and full of abundant instrumentation. As a soloist he plays them all: Twelve string acoustic and electric, numerous acoustic and electric six string guitars, bass guitar, keyboards, percussion, and all vocals. "You can always add more, but you never want to take anything away. My creative process is a personal affair as I pull emotions from the depths of my soul, I constantly pursue new creative horizons. I love songs with catchy melodies. I have a love for dramatic segues, and the presence of emotion and passion in both the lyrics and flow of dynamics. I hear all of the various parts of a song in my head when writing or producing a tune, keeping in mind how it will translate to a live audience. I place myself in a role as an active participant in the process; performing, viewing and listening at the same time; visualizing being in the audience watching, and being on stage performing. It helps me to capture the essence of the moment".
