"Make no mistake, Knoxville's own 1220 are the real deal, mean, and hungry you New Avatars of bad-boy hedonism who come on with all the cocksure authority and leering, reckless abandon of a young Motley Crue."
- Mike Gibson, Metro Pulse, Knoxville
"Are you ready to rock? This band would like you to answer that question in the affirmative, as they straddle the line between power pop and straight-ahead rock... "Killin' for A Livin'" - It's a mix of rock and power pop styles, but the common denominator is quality musicianship without any dud tracks involved. These guys have just turned 20 on average, and they have a bright future ahead of them." - AbsolutePowerPop.blogspot.com GREAT!!!!
"1220's Miss Legendary EP came out in 2007. Those guys face melt, they shred, they pound the rock! ME: "so, look, when I mix this do you really want it to sound like a 70's record or do you want it to have some of those elements, but more modern overall like JET." THEM: "FUCK JET" Enough Said, and bring back my Thin Lizzy DVD."
- Don Coffey Jr., Producer/Engineer at Independent Recorders, Knoxville, TN. Drummer, Superdrag.
"On their latest release Miss Legendary , Knoxville four-piece rock outfit 1220 sounds like it just stepped out of 1982, straight off L.A.'s Sunset Strip and into your CD player wearing leather pants and high-heeled boots and guitars slung way down low. So raw that the jewel case is still dripping with bloody residue. Who said rock is dead? Long live 1220."
- Metro Pulse, Knoxville
Wunderkinds of the Knoxville TN music scene,1220 bring echos of the seventies style of rock, but with a good dose of their own swaggering style. With the rock-solid rhythm section of Bill Van Vleet and Michael Cover anchoring the twin guitar attack of Nick Kurtz and Ricky Dover, Jr. this band has the power to back up vocalist Jacob Gibson's soaring vocal lines. Take the unpredictability of early Aerosmith, and mix a little bit of Led Zeppelin and T. Rex, and add a little Motley spice, and you've got a band that sounds a bit like 1220.
Formed in Knoxville in 2001, the band released a their first self-titled CD in 2005. After going through a lineup change in 2006, the band recorded the "Miss Legendary" EP, with former Superdrag drummer turned recording uber-god Don Coffey, Jr. at the controls.
With their latest release in May of 2009, the boys are BACK in town with a full length record entitled, "Killin' for A Livin'." Recorded again with Don Coffey at Independent Recorders, the record is a smash and grab job of smooth power pop energy mixed with fierce precision and accuracy. Now available on iTunes.
With every show, in every city, 1220 keeps turning heads with their infectious and exuberant live shows. Once you see the band live, you'll never forget it, and there's no better time than right now.
So what are you waiting for? Get off your ass and go see 1220!

On June 4th 2009, at the pinnacle of 1220's "Killin' For A Livin'" summer tour, the band opened up for Shooter Jennings at Knoxville's famed free summer concert series, Sundown In The City. Due to weather conflicts, the normal outdoor concert grounds were moved to Knoxville's historic 2,000 seat venue, the Tennessee Theater. With a completely packed house, and a line around the block, 1220 played a blistering 13 song, 45-minute set for their first ever appearance at the theater. Pictures can be found in the band's photo gallery, and a video from the band's performance can be found below.
