Representing Brighton UK, Koaste first hit the scene in the late nineties as an emcee with 360 Physicals, alongside amongst others, beatboxer Killa Kela and turntablist crew The Flaredycats. 360 rocked shows at various venues around the country and were heralded as a crew to watch in DJ Magazine, but split up before ever getting a proper release.
In 2000, Koaste released Call To Arms under the name Last Men Standing on the Raw Materials 2 LP (Stonegroove Records), shouting out his contemporaries in the UK scene at the time, and earning a "legendary" tag from Knowledge magazine in the process. Only four tracks were recorded under the LMS name, and eventually, due to conflicts of interest with the producer, Koaste decided to go it alone.
Since then, Koaste has brought his fire to various releases including Hoodee's First Contact EP (Aerosolik 2002), Dr Syntax's Pack Mentality (Dented/Beer & Rap 2006), Rup's King Cnut Remix (Zebra Traffic 2007) and the Ill Padrino 12" with production group The Waxheds (Smashing Enterprises 2007) which received some great reviews. His latest appearance was on Snuff The Ablist's Hip-Hop Blues 12" alongside MC Mercury from UK Hip-Hop legends Gunshot, and Foreign Beggars' Orifice Vulgatron. He has also appeared on every Brighton Hip-Hop Festival CD since its conception, gaining great exposure through cover mounts on Hip Hop Connection and Touch magazines.
2007 also saw Koaste team up with producer Mex of Black Grass (Catskills Records) as the crew's hypeman, contributing the track Splash The Cash to the Three LP, and performing at the Isle of Wight festival, The Big Chill, and a regular spot at Cargo, with more planned for 2008.
2009 will finally see the release of Billy The Kid - Koaste's long overdue solo 7" debut, with beats by Tom Caruana and Black Grass. The limited edition picture disc on Heroic Recordings should be back from the presses soon...
