Have you ever heard a song and could genuinely relate to what was being said? Or truely hear the passion in the person's voice? Well if you love passionate music that expresses struggling, succeding, and growing spiritually, then I would like to formally introduce an artist many know as KODAC aka M80. First mention of Kodac, normally brings thoughts of a "Kodac Moment." Although he is into development, it is an acronym with a much more profound meaning. Although this may be the first time many have heard of this artist, he is now where new to music, and the music business. With roots in UnderGround Hip Hop going back when he connected with Binary Star member OneBeLo (via DJ Phrikshun/ Ro Spit) and other Michigan elites to form the Subterraneous Crew under the Subterraneous Records Label. In 2001 the crew released the compilation album entitled "WaterWorld Too", and has managed to move over 5,000 units to date. The crew has done shows from Ann Arbor, Chicago, Madison, Minneapolis, Portland, and Seattle (just to name a few) opening up for the likes of Jurassic 5, De la Soul, Mos Def, Redman, Slum Village, and others.
Always keeping himself grounded in regards to life outside of music, he took time to live and hone his craft as a writer and also became an activist in his community working with the youth. "Understanding the power of words, and the inspiration of words in music should be one of the first lessons taught or learned as a emcee", says Kodac. "Now a days I'm not sure if artist/people are really listening to what is being said in music and what its promoting. Not every person who loves Hip Hop is in the club, searching for a quick fix chick, and trying to be the freshest. Some just love the music, and in there own way fit into the culture." That could be one of the things that have pushed this artist to name his first solo project "UnClassified" (Limited Edition), in the essence of being taken out a box/category and being able to live and grow as an artist/person without predetermined stipulations. Kodac states "..as an artist I want to have the creative control to explore me through music, and not get caught up what everyone else is doing or saying." In collaboration with Gifts From GOD Entertainment (GFG Entertainment), Kodac will exercise his business sense as a business man.
With a show set that will give any artist indie or major a run for their money, and a library of music, look for Kodac aka M80 to be in your city soon and be sure to check the album "UnClassified (Limited Edition)" in promotion of the full length album "UnClassified." Kodac leaves us with this "GOD has given us all gifts, and it is up to us to determine how we use them, and what we use them for. Life is short BUT all life is meaningful, and when you can find meaning in life, it makes it that much more easier to deal with the ups and downs. With demand continuing to increase, G.F.G. Entertainment has re-released a new version of "UnClassified" (Limited Edition), due to the first batch selling out (thank you to all who got it). Properly entitled "UnClassified (Limited Edition) XR, meaning a higher grade of the original. The XR version has new artwork and features Gwaii (Tansania), Octane/Ro Spit (Burn Rubber/ Octane & iLLite), and 5 BONUS Tracks. Production credits include Decompoze, Nick Speed, 14KT, ZO!! on keys, and UB.
Coming in January 2010 will be the FREE DOWNLOAD of the "Blessed By A Broken Heart" EP, which will be followed by the "Blessed By A Broken Heart" LP that will be dropping in February.
