Dimitris Koliakoudakis was born in 1966 in Chania, Crete. His father, Nikos Koliakoudakis from Likotinara, has been one of the most important lyra players of western Crete and a major influence for Dimitris.
After a brief history on lyra when he was 9 years old, he started accompanying his father with cretan lute, before taking classes of saz with Ross Daly. His turn to guitar came a bit later when he took his first lessons with Achilleas Persides and continued with Vassilis Rakopoulos, both of whom occasionally perform live with him nowadays.
"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians

"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
