In a space where cultures collide and wires cross, there is no place for definitions. When traditions are unbound and twisted up with fresh meaning, when ideas cross-pollinate to create new refrains, it is a Kollektiv process. Kollektiv is perfectly organic, borrowing energy for growth from its revelers, contributors, and creators in equal parts. It has no zip code, no home base. It is a tribe, a group of nomads who wander to be inspired, and to inspire in return. From raag-infused breakbeats and global electronica, to beat-laden rock and hip-hop, Kollektiv ignites dancefloors everywhere it lands.
Kollektiv was first incarnated as a weekly party in the fall of 2003 at the original Kush in NYCs Lower East Side. The brainchild of world-renowned producer/DJ Karsh Kale, the original Kollektiv translated the ideas and musical inspirations gathered from Karsh's world travels into an underground rhythm. With groundbreaking DJ sets by residents Kale and Derek Beres, and a tight community vibe pulsing in earnest, the party easily became habit-forming. It became a forum for Kollektiv-heads to exchange ideas with like-minded people. Creative energy was constantly renewed by a rotating cast of local and international guest artists who came to play at the legendary club.
That Kollektiv energy has since spread beyond its birthplace. From the madness of New York City, to the intimacy of San Diego, to the artist-patchwork of D.C., Kollektiv lands on the grid of any city that is willing to contribute its culture. No two sessions are the same: each is a journey flavored by season, city, and the passions of those present.
With a compilation featuring new tracks from Karsh Kale, Radiohiro, Func International and many others to be unleashed shortly, the fire is just beginning to spread. For now, Karsh, Zakhm, DK, Dimmsummer, and Janaka Selekta are on a quest to add to the many faces of Kollektiv - and turn up the sound of breaking ground.

"He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. That ideas should freely spread from one to another over the globe, for the moral and mutual instruction of man, and improvement of his condition, seems to have been peculiarly and benevolently designed by nature, when she made them, like fire, expansible over all space, without lessening their density in any point, and like the air in which we breathe, move, and have our physical being, incapable of confinement or exclusive appropriation"
‘Passing’, a collection of music recorded between 2003 & 2006.
"A seductive amniotic experience" - Belfast Telegraph.
Like scores for little unmade films or little moments in time, Brian's compositions move through far-reaching sonic landscapes filled with simple melodies, complex beats and hanging chords, both unexpected and beautiful! An individual voice, distinctive, striking, alluring.
