Guitar legend Oghene Kologbo was born in Warri, Nigeria in 1957. His father was a well known highlife musician. When Kologbo was a teenager, he began performing with the revolutionary Afrobeat master Fela Kuti. Kologbo went on to record more than 50 sides with Africa 70. He played the hypnotic tenor guitar lines, but often recorded bass and rhythm guitar too. Kologbo was Fela’s personal assistant and ‘tape recorder’. That is, it was his job to remember the melodies Fela would sing to him late at night, then teach them to the band at rehearsal the next day. In 1978, after a show at the Berlin Jazz Festival, Kologbo left the band (along with Tony Allen and a few others) and stayed in Berlin.
In the 1980s and 1990s, Kologbo worked with the legendary but short-lived Roots Anabo. He also toured and recorded with King Sunny Ade, Tony Allen, and Brenda Fassie, among others.
In 2005, Kologbo began working with the Afrobeat Academy, Berlin’s heaviest afrobeat ensemble. Their first single was released on Rabbi Records in 2006. Their full length cd “Remember Fela Anikulapo Kuti" was released on Lion's Ark in September 2007.In 2008 he moved to france to join TONY ALLEN band as tenor guitar.In 2009 he start the recording in Paris of his new album:"Africa is the future"produced by Loik Dury which will be out in spring 2010

Le légendaire guitariste Oghene Kologbo est née a Warri, au Nigeria en 1957. Son père était un musicien highlife bien connu:JOE KING KOLOGBO. A 13 ans il rejoint le maitre de l'Afrobeat Fela Kuti. Kologbo a enregistré plus de trente albums avec Fela. Principalement guitar ténor il a aussi enregistre basse et la guit rythmique.
Kologbo était l'assistant de Fela 'le magnétophone humain' son travail était de se rappeler les mélodies que Fela lui chantait tard dans la nuit, et de les enseigner le lendemain au cour des répétitions au groupe Africa70.
En 1978, après un concert au Festival de Jazz de Berlin, Kologbo a quitté le groupe avec Tony Allen et quelques autres,ils sont restés à Berlin.
Dans les années 1980 et les années 1990, Kologbo travailla avec le légendaire Roots Anabo . Il a aussi enregistré avec King sunny ade et Brenda Fassie, parmi d'autres. En 2005, Kologbo a commencé à travailler avec l'Afrobeat Academy, Leur premier single fut realisé par rabbi records en 2006.leur album:Remember Fela anikulapo kuti fut realisé par lion's ark en septembre 2007.
En 2008 il s'installe en France et rejoint le groupe de Tony allen comme membre permanent,avec lequel il tourne toujours comme guitariste tenor.En janvier 2009 il s'attaque a l'enregistrement de son nouvel album produit par Loik Dury:"Africa is the future".Sortie prévu primtemps 2010
