KONSENS : Berlin-based producer team and audiovisual live act, known
for their outrageous parties, ever changing band constellation and
variety of guest musicians. Clubs like Lovelite, Heeresbäckerei, Club
103, Club der Visionäre, Tacheles, Möbelfabrik and above all many
outdoor locations have been the spots for ecstatic KONSENS dance
movements in the last years. KONSENS is a collaboration of 6 artists
whose ways of working and thinking may differ in many ways. But close
friendship and a huge amount of time spent together keep pushing them
to achieve NOT compromises but a genuine consensus in the best sense
of the word, to which each one of the 6 contributes his special
skills. The KONSENS members have all published individual projects
whose styles include indie rock (Peter Hintze), hiphop (Povlacek/Finchhatten), dub (Lance Gamble), balkan beats
(Schimanski), jazz remixes (Finchhatten) as well as experimental
composition, impro and theatre music (Paul Friedrich Frick). It would
be impossible though to enumerate the various projects of visual
artist Aron Kitzig and camera man Andy Haas... The first and - up to
now - only KONSENS record appeared in 2005 (KONSENS 001) and is
somehow a mirror of that diversity, containing house, dub, downbeat
hiphop and garage tracks, yet still achieving ONE sound. Anyhow the
forthcoming EP "Frontlight" will be more homogeneous, all tracks
feature the same singer, the incredible Berlin soul lady Grey Cloud.

Review: "Don Goliath's "Bagstep EP" (DDR030) is one of those innovative EPs showcasing how versatile Dubstep can get. The unique idea of creating Dubstep versions of celctic (Irish as well as Scottish) folk classics for all you drunkards longing to sing along was Don Goliath's motto when producing this madness. The concept is as simple as effective: he picked 4 of your grandpa's favourites such as "Old Skibbereen", "Scotland the Brave", "Drunken Sailor" and "Amazing Grace" having the melody played by a definitly non-sober Bagpipe section and then layering it with lofi mid range wobbleism - we therefor call it Bagstep. Overall production quality is high grade with that intense sub focus so you can blow-dry your hair right in front of the bass bins. Now let's get into the tunes: "Skibbereen Bagstep" is one of the melancolic minor tunes expressing Irish history as it is. It is an unmixable 3/4 waltz beat at unusual 154bpm, well dancebal though when one moves to the triplets. "Bagstep the brave" should be one of the sickest rebuilds of the Scottish national anthem making it Mel Gibson's signature tune if he had one. "Drunken Bagstep" is a Glitchfest version of the sailors anthem capable of getting you uberdrunk by listening alone, Arrrr! "Amazing Bagstep" is as religious as it gets making it a tune that'll certainly safe xamounts of lost souls. Enjoying the dancefloor got even easier now: drink out the bar, make your skirt fly and sing along to these (future) classics! Some will hate this release and some will love it, there barely is anything in between. All Dubstep Division crew salutes the latter as our fellow beerheadz! cheeeeeerz!"
