Michael Young Cho's Interests
|
| Music | I've got extremes. One minute I'm into great guitarists like Jimi Hendrix, Joe Satriani, Jeff Beck, Gary Hoey & others. Then there are times, that I'm into Salsa or the "New Wave" of the 80's. | | Movies | The best movie ever written has got to be Dances With Wolves. Here are a few others I like: La Armistad, Hoosiers, Glory. I like one of those "Feel good", inspirational movies. | | Books | Some Quotes of Ralph Waldo Emerson:
But do your work, and I shall know you. Do your work, and you shall reinforce yourself.
(For me "work" is my standup comedy & writing.)
Other Quotes:
To believe your own thought, to believe that what is true for you in your private heart is true for all men- that is genius.
In every work of genius we recognize our own rejected thoughts; they come back to us with a certain alienated majesty.
Else tomorrow a stranger will say with masterly good sense precisely what we have thought and felt all the time, and we shall be forced to take with shame our own opinion from another.
(this encourages me to trust my creativity in writing my jokes for standup comedy)
A Quote from Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass:
Shut not your doors to me proud libraries,
For that which was lacking on all your well-fill'd shelves,
yet needed most, I bring,
Forth from the war emerging, a book I have made,
...But you ye untold latencies will thrill to every page.
(Someday my performances will be in the archives of the library in the form of videos--- I hope.)
A few others I like are Frankenstein by Mary Shelly and parts of Thomas Wolfe's Look Homeward Angel---excellent descriptive writing. A high school teacher thought that some of my writing was comparable to Thomas Wolfe. | | Heroes | Daisaku Ikeda, Ghandi, & Nelson Mandela. You've got to really admire Ghandi. This 5 foot man, weighing about 100 pounds, drove the mighty British army out of India without a military weapon! That's POWER!
Love Thomas Edison for his never give up, perspiration. He tried everything, even hair from a friend's beard for a filament for his light bulb.
Mandela---love him for his belief that he & his people are just as great & EQUAL to any white person.
Gorbachev---love him for realizing that the arms race was causing suffering for his people---realizing that his country needed a new direction for peace & prosperity.
Daisaku Ikeda---love him for teaching me that "...a change in a single person will change the destiny of a country and eventually the world" |
