Kori Jean Olsen is just your average 19 year old teenage girl born in Provo Utah, but calling Austin Texas home. From the time she was 7 years old, she was on stage performing. She always knew that she wanted to use music to share her thoughts and feelings. Kori has always believed that music helps break down walls that build up over time. There are no secrets or fears when Kori is behind the microphone, it’s her bearing what she is in its most sincere form.
Kori’s journey began as she started to realize that she wanted to try and make a career out of music. Kori had been singing and playing the piano from a young age. Kori’s challenge was how to get her career started so she could recognize her dreams.
At the age of seventeen, Kori spent the year performing throughout the community. Kori then decided to compete in a competition called Austin Idol. Kori placed 2nd and was followed by Fox 7 news to Dallas to try out for American Idol. Hearing the words “Thanks you’re not what were looking for” from the AI producers, helped Kori quickly realize that was a big shot in the dark. Kori and her family looked for a more conventional way to do this the right way. After speaking with many recording studios, Kori ran across a studio on 6th and Trinity in downtown Austin Texas called Flashpoint Recording that felt very comfortable. At Flashpoint, Kori was introduced to Paul Pearcy. After a few conversations with Kori about what she wanted to get out of the effort, Paul agreed to produce Kori’s first album. Kori’s first CD,” Reason Why”, was released in June of 2009. The music is a mixture of country rock, country pop, and some blues. The messages of each of the songs match Kori’s personality. Although Kori is of small physical stature, songs like “Fight Like a Girl” and “When I Get Mean”, show Kori’s strong determination in her life. The soft side of Kori can be seen in the title track, “I’ll Be Your Reason Why”, and with the mid tempo song “Beautiful” helping young women understand where their true beauty lies. Kori now is playing in locations around Austin, and is continuing to look for opportunities to expand her music.
Kori is excited to finally share with the world who she is and what she stands for hoping that one day her music can reach and affect others the way music has affected her.
