Sounds Like
On any given occasion, folks have told me that I sound like Todd Rundgren, Daryl Hall, and even David Bowie. I certainly do not aspire to equate myself with any of them. They truly are stellar. But, I do imagine that I resemble one, or all of these guys vocally, depending on the venue, or recording tools available.
I am a performing musician at heart. I held no “real” socially acceptable job until around 1986. Prior to that, (since around 13 years old), I was a musician, playing with enough bands that I can’t remember them all.
Other than working to be a great guitar player—until the next “gunslinger” guitarist comes looking to off you—I had marginal local success, playing with some really fine and talented musicians. Some of them included; Total Eclipse, Jester, Cheezgumb, Toxic Shock, and having the most success with Joey Saint & HiFi for a four year stint, beginning to sign a record deal with Atlantic Records, and losing the deal with Atlantic. (All for the best, believe me.) I have had the privilege of sharing the stage with some really great acts as well—from very wonderful local acts, to national, and international artists, such as; The Edgar Winter Group, Bricklin, Tom Gillam, The VELs, Pretty Poison, The Smithereens, A Flock of Seagulls, and Level 42.
Having kids changes everything, but not as much as a religious conversion, where I ventured to become responsible for the first time, and entered Seminary, although I could not keep that up, feeling more and more distance from God the longer I kept at it.
My church experience evolved into seeing a huge disconnect from the Christ I found in scripture, and began a journey of embracing the marginalized in life. Both heartbreaking, and redemptive. Through this experience, I discovered that there was such a thing as “Church Planting,” and became active within the Grace Brethren Fellowship. I later found out that there were no “Magic Annunciations from On High” within that qualify one to begin a faith community, and that we were already engaged in creating a “church” through a feeding ministry we began years before. So, we began Still Waters Church.
"Still Waters" is a socially conscience church, dedicated to intentional community through diversity, and hopes to build a church of equality, freedom and acceptance through the love of Christ, seeking to regain the biblical description of Christ’s Community.
We are primarily a re-imagined way of "being church," that is quite different and fulfilling, ruining us for ever returning to a standard “normal” way of dong church, ever again. It is freeing to not have to wear a pious disguise, and liberating to engage in activities and associations that would have been considered sinful.
So, as a pastor, Christ-follower, church builder, musician, father, husband, and activist, I am reverting, full circle to playing the music that really excites me (and God) in bars where I think Jesus would hangout today.
Continuing the pilgrimage...
Note: The word "church" is a verb, but how often are we experiencing church, rather than going to a building called "Church?"

Ever wondered what to do in the event of a nuclear threat?
A while ago I found stuff that inspired me to make this film:
Living Under the Shadow of the Nuclear Umbrella
Both artistic (ensure you get the background music!) and educational, it primarily comprises official British government civil defence advice.
Though source materials are quite aged, much remains relevant today.
I encourage all to visit the YouTube page to learn more (Show support! Rate! Comment!) and responsibly circulate as widely as possible, here: http://www. youtube. com/watch?v=UaIim3Rj7L4

on August 13th (which would have been Dan's 57th birthday), we're presenting a special show at the Sellersville Theatre in Sellersville, PA.
"Leader of the Band: Remembering the life and music of Dan Fogelberg" will feature Dan's music performed by an all-star cast, including Jim Photoglo (Dan's bassist for the past twenty years, and a phenomenal singer/songwriter in his own right), Wendy Waldman (friend of Dan's who opened for him on the 'Exiles' tour), Cindy Bullens (opened for Dan on tour in 2002/2003), Nashville songwriting legend Craig Bickhardt (5 number one songs, with a discography covering artists as diverse as Ray Charles and BB King to The Judds and Kathy Mattea).
All the net proceeds of this event will be donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
With very little promotion, the show is already half sold - if you're at all interested in coming, PLEASE get your tickets soon...we've put a lot of work into this, and we'd like to send a nice check to the PCF in Dan's memory. It's going to be a phenomenal show, and you'll definitely be glad you came if his music was important to you in any way, shape, or form.
