Bio
Korveil - Singer, songwriter, and producer from Chicago's Humboldt Park Community. He stepped his foot into music at 16 in an R&B group. The group had local success, took 2nd place in BET'S "Motown Talent Search," signed to a label, and performed throughout the Midwest. Surprisingly, he was not the lead singer but Korveil describes it as a learning experience and credits the group for giving him the opportunity to master his background vocals. This eventually landed him a spot as a background singer on Jazz legend Ramsey Lewis's "Ivory Pyramid" album. After the boy band ended, Korveil went on a solo journey to find his new place in the music industry. Undergoing many name changes, record deals, empty promises, and bad contracts, he quickly grew dissatisfied with just being a singer. He was determined to learn "the business." He went on to college and earned a degree in business. Followed by an entrepreneur program in which he later dropped, when a professor told him starting a record label was too risky and not supported by the program. However, Korveil's determination was relentless. At the ripe age of 22, he literally put every dime into forming his own record label and distributed his first solo record "Never Fall-n-Love" produced by Manny Mohr of "20 Fingers." Korveil remembers, "I sold over 5,000 units on my in-store consignments, that accomplishment was more rewarding than a major deal." Korveil's well-received record provided enough capital for him to buy his own recording equipment. While his buzz was growing and his fan base was anticipating a follow up record, Korveil decided it was best for him to go into seclusion to take time to learn how to produce. "I woke up one day and realized I had $20,000 worth of equipment that I didn't know how to use properly." Korveil then became known not only as a singer but as a producer / studio engineer who rented out his studio to the public. "I had the cheapest rates in the city. I was booked solid for many years." Korveil describes it as a blessing and a curse because he made a decent amount of money but neglected his own artistry. However, Korveil continued to remain somewhat relevant by singing for the multitude of clients that rented his studio services. During this period, he estimates singing on over 100 songs. Most notable for his hook on "Put Ya C's Up" in 2009, which topped the countdown for over three months on all three of Chicago's major urban stations. Despite having an early career in R&B, Korveil's personal musical taste is primarily upbeat club music. In 2009 he renamed his company to Clubhead Production and began to concentrate more in the dance genre. Unlike the typical dance records which are less lyrical and more produced, Korveil took a different approach merging R&B song structure and harmonic vocals, with chest pumping beats mostly above 120 BPM. Clubhead collaborated with a variety of artists, serviced remixes, and also launched the careers of other talents. In addition, produced commercial work, and landed TV scores on hit programs such as, "So You Think You Can Dance," "90210," and "America's Best Dance Crew." Korveil's current single "Who You Are" released June 2011 is the first of a string of records that will lead to his album scheduled to release in early 2012. Korveil adds, "I have a ton of material but I'm taking my time nurturing the album to be a certain way but in the meantime, I'm having fun with a few records." "Who You Are" is currently available on iTunes, Rhapsody, Amazon and every major online retailer. -
