Nestled in the “Rock house” of Northwest Arkansas, the members of The Kory Montgomery band have the philosophy that music is a way of life. The band has been spreading their name and reputation across the country now for 4 years, and still continues to gain new popularity with their solid grooves, intense solos, and demanding lyrics. Memphis, St. Louis, Los Angeles…every week the band is living from a new city, adding to their nationwide following. Over the past years the group has had the opportunity to open for some great musicians including BB King, on multiple occasions, Kenny Wayne Shepard, and many other national acts. Every member has the common drive to spread the groove, which makes The Kory Montgomery Bands sound spread across the world to new and old ears. Garrett Jones lays down the groove with his four stringed fiddle and Johny Arredondo corrals the band with his presence on the kit. Guitarist, composer, and vocalist Kory Montgomery leads the group with passion that will grab your soul. It is a rough road for any musician, but there is no doubt that this group of guys will prevail through today’s music industry.
-Kory Montgomery-
Kory Montgomery started playing at the age of 13 around Fayetteville, AR’s bar scene, and has not slowed down since. The Kory Montgomery band was formed in 2004 to open for BB King in Indianola, MS. Since then Kory has played hundreds of bars, festivals, radio shows, and events throughout the country with his band, including making it to the finals of the 2005 International Blues Challenge and sharing the stage with Earth Wind and Fire, Buddy Guy, and Lee Ritenour just to name a few. In 2006 Kory received a scholarship from Steve Vai to attend The Grammy Foundations “Grammy Camp”. There he was mentored by Lee Ritenour, Steve Vai, Rickey Minor, Phillip Bailey, and many more of the music industry’s top executives. After the taste of the big city life and it’s vast opportunities, Kory move to Los Angeles, CA to study at Musicians Institute. With teachers like Jake Eckert (Dirty Dozen Brass Bands Guitarist), Stuart Ziff (War’s guitar player), and Ross Bolton (Al Jarreau ), Kory was quickly educated on the in’s and out’s of a professional musician. After a year and a half of intensive musical study, he once again received the opportunity to open for BB King in Eureka Springs, AR. With Kory’s heart still in the south, he decided once again to relocate his band back towards the Northwest Arkansas area. Now at 21 years old, Kory’s primary focus is pushing this band to the next level in the music industry. With a skanky sound that can only be described as his own, and the vast caliber of players behind him; it seems to be only a matter of time before national success unfolds.
-Garrett Jones-
Garrett adds a completely different twist to the electric band with his astounding upright skills. It is rarity for a bass player to be as comfortable on the upright as an electric bass, but that is the case for Garrett. He grew up toting around the monster bass since he was 10 years old, learning from the best musicians available throughout the southern regional area. Now at 22 years old, Garrett has performed countless gigs with jazz groups, and rock groups including playing with Claudia Burson, Jura Margulis, Shelia Jordan, Ed Saidan, and has opened for the likes of Willie Nelson in 2005. His mellow but aggressive attack on the upright has added a fresh sound to the songwriting of contemporary Blues Funk idiom, and continues to stretch the sound of the band. It truly is a sight to see the mastery of the upright bass along with the high energy of the Kory Montgomery Band.
-Tyler Wright-
Drummer / Percussionist Tyler Wright is the newest addition to The Kory Montgomery Band. Now in his 20’s, Tyler has been playing music since he was 10 years old after his parents recognized his special ability to make pots and pans sound good. His stylistic approach to the kit varies greatly as he is capable of performing 1940's bebop jazz to southern Red Dirt Rock, to "In your face, Knock you socks off" ROCK!!! A lot of his training has come from Marching Drum and Bugle corps as well as playing in The University of Arkansas Percussion Ensemble under the direction of Chal Ragsdale. In his free time away from the drum-line Tyler has spent countless hours performing on numerous Albums recorded in the south between North Carolina and Arkansas . For the past few years Tyler has been performing around Fayetteville, Arkansas with numerous bands including Opal Fly(jazz), The Poggs(Rock), The 1 Oz. Jig(funk), Without A Whisper(Hard-Rock) Sarah Hughes Band(Folk/country), Use Curti
s(Alternative) The Declaration(Funk/Rock). Tyler is a committed full time musician and yet another valued member of the KMB..
-Drew Packard-
The addition of funk driven guitarist Drew Packard has been critical in many of Fayettevllle’s prominent ensembles. Having graduated from the University of Arkansas in 2008 Drew jumped head first into the scene utilizing his training from guitarist / bassist Dr. James Greeson to create many of the most recognizable groups in the state of Arkansas. Foremost on his list has been the creation of The Fayetteville Funk Ensemble which opened many times for fusion legends Garaj Mahal. He is now the full time bassist for jazz pianist Claudia Burson, and is one of the founding members of The Pentomino Players. He works with many Funk and Hip Hop ensembles including Jeff Kearney’s 1 OZ Jig and is a revolutionary in the free jazz movement having performed in festivals with saxophonists Jack Wright and Keefe Jackson as well as bassist Jon Barrios. He is also a member of the free jazz group Galactic Gutbucket and helped to organize the Fayetteville Free Jazz Festival in 2007. The addition of Drew and his many effects powered guitars adds a new depth to the Kory Montgomery Band that is sure to keep the audience grooving.
