Production Name: Kosine
Profile: Starting out at the tender age of 10, DJing at house parties, halls, youth clubs and also building up his vinyl collection Mark aka Kosine was one of the youngest DJs in Brighton. The year of 1993 was a very influencial period for the bright eyed youngsta with jungle blowing up from hardcore and many artists beggining to emerge. This led to a genre of music that mark was fascinated by and wanted to know more about. From then on Kosine became a fly on the wall in many of Brightons independent record shops including 'Buzzbase Records' where many sterns residents worked 'HVR records' home to the imfamous Krafty Kuts and the 'godfather' of the south coast....Dj Quantum. Around the time of 96 Kosine was a regular to HVR and soon started to network with promoters, producers and other dj's. His constant spending pattern and infinate knowledge of Jungle made Krafty decide that the best thing was to employ him as a weekend boy. Many things then started to open up for Mark in the coming years including a slot on Dj Quantums 'jungle pressure' show on Juice FM, a residency for RMC, Steppaz Convention (which was Brightons original jungle night), Underfire Records night, Dimensions of sound, Jungle Pressure, Lunarcy & Junglizm, Threshold, Dynamix & Congo Natty Events. Playing out so much naturally moved mark into production work.
Kosine has been working & studying music production since 97. Back then using an Atari Running Cubase V.3 alongside a Akai s3000. Mark got deeply involed within music technology and hes skills and knowledge inhanced within 3 years, Moving on to to more advanced analog gear & computer based programs such as logic 7 & 8 in the 2000's Kosine was able to get his production sounding tight & dynamic and ready for the public ear. Production's Gaining respect from many Djs in the D&B/Jungle scene , Including Bailey, Bizzy B, Flight, Rohan (Bassbin), Marc Mac (4 Hero), Insight, Modular, Crissy Criss, Double O to name a few.
Gaining radio play on BBC Radio 1Xtra has been a great achievement for Mark as it has gained himself a lot more confidence in getting music heard on a greater scale. A area mark has been greatly successful with was his music technology college course, gaining himself a BAFTA award in 2004 for recognizing talent & outstanding achievement. Moving back to 2009 Kosine has many ventures in place starting his own label "Originate Recordings" featuring artist such as X Nation, Theory, Insight, Voytek, also Classified Material. The label will be pushing digital releases along with Ltd Vinyl pressings of Future Jungle, D&B, J-Tek also Dubstep & Broken Beat genres (Vinyl available from Load Media late 2009).
Kosine is a well known face in the Drum and Bass Scene and you can catch him playing many D&B, Jungle & Oldskool events

Kosine (Question & Answer with Bizzy B @ www.junglistdownload.com 2009)
JD: How did you make the transition to the Jungle scene?
It all started for me with growing up with early dance music. 1991 was the start hearing old rave tapes from all the classic DJ's
such as Grooverider, Ellis Dee, Ratty, Easygroove, Vibes, Top Buzz, Carl Cox etc, I started collecting tapes leading to buying vinyl in around 93.
The first shop I was taken to by my father called Buzz Base in Brighton the main outlet for Rave music at the time.
There on I was addicted to the sound of Hardcore & Jungle in a big way. Eventually DJing in about 94/5 where the Jungle scene was emerging to Drum & Bass and buying vinyl & DJing right the way through till now (2009).
JD: Are you a dj also has DJing changed your life?
I am a DJ and have been mainly djing in & around Brighton for 18 years now, I use the name DJ Youngsta as it has stuck with me since a young age would you believe it!, Im still not totally sure who gave me the name or where it came from? haha Anyhow ive been using Youngsta since 1995.
I think DJing has changed my life, Because of the amount of wicked people I have met over the time, it just shows that there is so many amazing
people & crews all working so hard to create nothing but pure vibes & atmosphere for the rave scene. Not that without Djing I would'nt of met
so many great people its just the vibe that playing & getting involved brings.
JD: What software do you use?
At the moment I use Logic 8, Abelton Live on Mac, With a range of plugins & editing software like Re-Cycle, Audio Finder, Universal Audio, Camel Audio, Rob Papen, Expert Sleeper's, U-He, Novation & Korg (Plugins)
JD: What Equipment do you use?
Mainly Digital based now using my Mac G5 running a set of Studio Phile Bx5 Monitors a Alesis Photon X25 also using a Rel Q200 Sub. Outboard used ocasinally is, Akai S3000XL, Evans Mdd-500H Delay Unit, Yamaha MG16/6 Desk, Roland Juno-6, Various Reverb units. I do wish I had an Atari still !!
JD How do you mix your tracks?
I mainly mix on the go, I build the track and in the arrangement process I start mixing & Eqing,
I gain most of my channels in logic and compress only drums & bass (Not all the time). For the final mixdown I go over all the elements & make sure the mix is sounding
as tight and alive as possible. After I have bounced the track I run the whole mix through mastering plugins like Logics Multi Pressor or T-Racks soon to be getting IZotop's O-Zone for Mac also.
JD: What is your Best moment in Music?
Oooww This is a tuff one!! Best Djing moment so far would have to be NYE 2009 played at the Concorde II in Brighton, 11.30 - 1 started out with Hardcore from 1990 then progressed up to Drum & Bass now!! Big crowd massive raving vibes.. Big shouts to the Junglism & Zapback Crew. I think getting a BAFTA award for my achievement at my music technology college was the greatest moment to date as it was presented to me by Sir George Martin (The Beatle's Producer). Shout to all the crew @ Access to music.
JD: How were you able to make the transition into Jungle?.
I made the transition by getting out there and networking with various djs & promoters in the scene, Buying music & getting advice. A main person that helped me
was Dj Quantum a Sterns Interdance DJ. He put me on at his club night Steppaz Convention & Jungle Pressure (Radio Show) when I was about 15 years old, other promoters heard my
sets & things took off from there on.
JD:Whats in the pipeline?
Im starting my own label called "Originate Recordings" focusing on Future Jungle, D&B, J-Tek, also Dubstep & Broken Beat. Artists on the label so far will be X-Nation, Theory, Insight, Voytek & Classified Material. the label will be doing digital & releasing vinyl through Load Media late 2009.
I am doing a podcast mix in feb for : Darklight club night stay tuned to drum & bass arena for details.
Carbon with Alaska & Paradox (Isolationist LP Launch), Breakage, Insight & Voytek, Guest's Escher, Kosine & Absent @ The Volks - Brighton UK
Also a interview with OD on Radio Reverb - 97.2FM or www.radioreverb.com
More music & club nights check myspace : www.myspace.com/kosinebrighton
JD: What clubs were you playing at?
Started out @ The Beach Comber, The Zap, The Pressure Point, Cuba, RMC (Illegal Party's), The Beach Club, BN1 Club,The Volks, Ocean Rooms, The Druids, Concorde II, (Various Outdoor Raves)
JD: How has dance music changed since it started?
It has changed a great deal not for good or bad, mainly with technology advancing & computers getting faster making processes within making electronic music faster & easier etc thats the main change for me in my opinion. I think dance music has grown massively with the rise of the internet making the dance scene grow worldwide, this has made it accessible to
a wider audience rather than staying more underground this is a big change but a good one I reckon.
JD: What is your favorite venue to spin at?
The Volks Club - Wicked dark oldskool atmosphere, One of the best underground venues on the south coast imo, heavy soundsystem amazing events & line ups.. Check it out!!
JD: How do you think the scene has changed over the years?
I think its changed a lot we have been through many stages of Jungle from Hardcore up to Clownstep haha no seriously, it has moved in great waves many new producers adding
hi end techniques & furthering their take on D&B, Jungle or Hardcore. In the 2000's I can seriously say that Drum & Bass is making a great history for itself just as the way the early sound of Hardcore & Jungle did. Id like to add a big shout to all the producers & DJs working hard in the scene creating solid vibes for crowds the world over each and every year.
JD:Any Bigups?
Big shout to Bizzy B & all the Junglist Download Crew, My Mum & Dad for all the support over the years, My sexy lady Suzie, My neighbours for putting up with the bassss "Everybody needs good neighbours" , All the Brighton Jungle/D&B Community (Way too many people to mention!!) All the DJs that support my music & all the people that I have met over the years and ears with no fears....
Nuff respect & Stay locked...
Peace
