Born Paul Kouatchou, in Cameroon , Central Africa, he now lives in the United Kingdom. KOUATCHOU is a Reggae , the father of two, Sylvanie and Nesta with Tamnu. A romantic but driven by the Universe, he says "Pauline remains my priority until otherwise."
Aside from his family, there is no one more important than a nameless friend that he calls "inspired lover." This special person gave Kouatchou his first guitar. He explains that "without that guitar I would never have become a musician. My poor family, couldn’t afford a guitar while living our farm in Cameroon."
Kouatchou is also a carpenter, a teacher and a traveler. After the difficult decision to leave teaching, he became a serious musician while living in Brazil. Kouatchou says "As a child, I showed musical instincts. This instinct was a gift given while attending choir practice with my mum. Music never left me, though. Something inside me kept urging me to find my audience and that journey was launched in Brazil." Kouatchou worked with his band playing primarily Roots Reggae. Brazil’s beauty and people informed Kouatchou’s lyrics because most Brazilians have perfected the art of survival. Like Africans, they aspire to live above the difficulties of everyday life. Kouatchou often reflects on the privilege of working with Brazilian musicians like Arthur Maia, Gilberto Gil, Zelli, Daniel Alcantara, Jair Soares, Ricardo Mansur, Monica Ribeiro, Ana Paula Vicar, Dra. Ana, Deane, Maranhao and favored studio engineer known as Paulinho.
Although he was a long way from home, nothing could drive Kouatchou’s from his music. Perhaps not so surprisingly, carpentry got him into the recording studio. He teamed up with Micheal Soga to remodel a recording studio in London, England. With the help of borrowed tools, materials bought on credit and the labor of a good friend, Keithly Mendes, Kouatchou sealed the deal for studio time. Only a well-timed miracle paid for the producer. Together with Toney T (SKIPPA) Skillington and Vinnipee, Kouatchou set out to lay down his first tracks. Finally Kouatchou put together Change. The album is exclusively available on here on MYSPACE.
Kouatchou teaches through his music; he believes his music reflects the face of the Universe. Through his music Kouatchou reveals the reality of those that live on the margins but express themselves with love and a God given joy. Although Kouatchou remains an independent artist, he continues to pursue his international audience.
