Krakow! is a synth-y pop collaboration between Nick Szydlowski (of Hotel Universe) and Kyle Jarrow (of The Fabulous Entourage). Two musicians, representing Boston and New York, respectively. Like the Red Sox and the Yankees. But for music.
Their album "There Will Come Soft Rains" was released in November 2007. It features 13 songs inspired by the poetry of little-known (but quietly great) American poet Sara Teasdale (1884-1933). You can download the album for free at www.hoteluniverse.org/krakow.html
Frequently asked questions:
1) Why Sara Teasdale?
Answer: We liked her poetry and it was in the public doman.
2) Why did you call this thing "Krakow"?
Answer: It was a nod to our shared Polish cultural heritage.
3) Who did the amazing album art?
Answer: Katheryn Asson.
And here, for your reading pleasure, is a Sara Teasdale poem...
There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground,
And swallows circling with their shimmering sound;
And frogs in the pool singing at night,
And wild plum trees in tremulous white;
Robins will wear their feathery fire,
Whistling their whims on a low fence-wire;
And not one will know of the war, not one
Will care at last when it is done.
Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree,
If mankind perished utterly;
And Spring herself when she woke at dawn
Would scarcely know that we were gone.
