KRIS DREVER – Orcadian multi-instrumentalist & owner of one of the most ethereal & enigmatic voices to emerge from Scotland in recent times. Kris’ debut album ‘Black Water’ brought him to the attention of the BBC Folk Awards who honoured him with the Horizon Award for Best Newcomer. He is also a founder member of LAU, winners of the Best Group Award.
‘Black Water’ is a rich & astonishing journey, one through twisting lanes of traditional themes & acoustic music, the delicate & intricate arrangements enveloped by Kris’s voice (& packed with a sorrowful punch); the songs injected with honesty & heartfelt drama at every turn. The playing is quite simply off the page, yet joyfully melodic & simplistic.
The ‘LIVE’ DVD was recorded in January 2008 - Kris Drever's set comprises a full performance of his album ‘Black Water’ in concert for Celtic Connections 2008, featuring: Ian Carr, Roddy Woomble, Donald Shaw, John McCusker, Heidi Talbot, Andy Cutting, Ewen Vernal, Donald Hay, Karen Mathieson.
Kris will soon begin work on his second album due for release in 2009, before that he is busy being one third of DREVER McCUSKER WOOMBLE (along with John McCusker & Roddy Woomble) - their album, ‘Before The Ruin’, is due September 15th 08 alongside a full UK tour starting at the Union Chapel, London on Sept 24th.

Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN
Once drove an old sedan, up north, From a place in Sydney to Cairns; Then to Kuranda I went forth, By train, to look without set plans.
I browsed through the trendy market, With fresh fruits of tropical kind; Walked to the creek through lush thicket - Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.
I dined in a scenic cafe; Then, outside, as I wrote for yen, Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey, You go walkabout with your pen.”
Request or question, I don’t know - Assured voices, elderly men. That’s now several years ago, And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.
Hello Kris, Thanks for a great night of music last night....That autograph under the lolly stick is so cool :-)Do you remember that invisible tag on Waukmill Bay photo years ago....That was me! arrrgh :-)
