Any woman who has ever uttered or created a musical sound; the Beatles; the beat generation; 1960s folk and protest music; American folk music of the '30s and '40s.
Sounds Like
I like to think that somehow I sound a bit like all the folks I admire, even the ones who don't sing.
Kris Kitko is a one-woman musical/comedy powerhouse who strums, picks, sings and fills up the stage like a five-piece band. The "Chicago Tribune" claims that she has "musical superpowers" and that she lights up the room with her "disarming sense of humor" and "considerable talent."
Kris uses real life to make us laugh; nothing is safe from her quick wit. Her musical skit "On Becoming a Woman and Other Lies" has brought down the house from Florida to Chicago and beyond. "Windy City Times" claims that her humorous feminist tune, "The Bitch Song" has "anthem written all over it." Kitko delights her audiences with a reminder that we've all got issues with her hysterical song "Everybody's Family Is Messed Up (Including Yours and Especially Mine)".
Every now and then Kitko steps back into a more introspective mood and delivers gorgeous melodies and lyrics. "Feel" takes us down Any Street in Any Town, USA, and gives us a door-to-door tour of the lives of all those strangers living on your block--from the former homecoming queen to the retired truck driver. And for those of you who have ever lost a pet and felt as though you would never recover, "We Buried Our Dog Today" will gently take your hand and lead you into a room of friends who have all suffered and survived that experience.
But enough of that...before you know it, Kris Kitko has you laughing again, maybe at a politician, maybe at the weather, or maybe at yourself.
Kris Kitko enjoys being part of her community. Between her appearances, she helps with fundraisers and other events. She has performed to raise money for domestic violence programs, animal shelters, children's services, and urban renewal projects. This year Kristin was honored to receive the "Love Without Fear" award from the Abused Adult Resource Center in Bismarck, North Dakota.
Kris has released a new CD, Krissy Made A Funny, which the critics are crying about--the kind of crying that goes along with gut-wrenching laughter.
Guitar Noise predicts that "Kitko is a name that will go far," and it's looking as though she's on her way.
Hey, I've got a new acoustic demo up of my song "Snapshot Chronicles" up now. Feel free to listen, comment, and if you like it tell your friends. If not, that's cool too.
I am... for lack of a better word... living. My life is hectic x 2374982379. Are you still teaching guitar? Cus if I can get time I'd love to come back and hang out with you and learn some things and stuff. I find myself getting deeper and deeper into making music, especially because last weekend I was with my boyfriend and his brother and we did a bunch of recording. And I LOVED IT!!! Plus I can't write melodies to save my life and I have piles and stacks and notebooks full of lyrics (good? maybe not. but lyrics all the same). Sooooooo how are you?
That sounds exciting! Not much new here. I'm in Jamestown babysitting my little siblings while my Dad is in Germany, thats pretty fun. Well have a good day! PEACE Katy
Hey Kris, its good to hear from you! I plan on coming to Bismarck for Thanksgiving and am really looking forward to getting together. Seems like its been forever since I've seen you and Karen! Hope all is well, I heard everyone had a great time at Lola's birthday party. :)
