I've been writing songs since I was a teenager. I started singing professionally at 16 years old. Continued on into college, then made my way on to cruise ships and rock bands. I grew up listening to just about everything. I have 7 siblings, most of them older so they listened to ROCK and ROLL, while my parents listened to Willie and Patsy. I loved it all. Anything with soul, anything that moved me. I listened to music all the time, in the barn, in the fields, the pick up trucks, everywhere. I sang all the time where ever and when ever I could. I started playing guitar in college. I was asked to write some songs for one of my professors for an upcoming show about the Blue Bird Cafe in Nashville. Not only did I offer to write them, I had to then teach the actors in the play how to play them! The joke is, when I took the job, I had no idea how to play the guitar! But I told him no problem, got in my car drove to Manitowoc Wi, (just outside of Green Bay) and bought my first guitar. Then I pulled out a bunch of sheet music from weddings I was doing that summer and taught my self chords. I proceeded to write 12 songs. Most of them for the show, but one of them called "Janie", made it on to this album. I have written hundreds of songs over the years, but had somehow got side tracked in my career, .... life sort of got in the way. So I left my job last year, locked myself in my house, wrote an album, recorded it, produced it, got a band together, and now I'm out promoting it! This first album includes new and old songs, sort of a story if you will. Some rock oriented, others country, but all of them soul. I just released the album in August, but I am already working on the second. I didn't realize I had so much to say! I have surrounded myself with very talented musicians who have gracefully lended their talents to the cause. I hope my songs make you cry, give you hope, or make you smile. Or at the very least, get your foot to start movin.... the best reward any artist can ask for, is to write a song that makes someone tell you that you've impacted their life. Those are the moments that make all worth it.
I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been a part of creating this album. "The Fourtuante Few" Stan, Hans, Dave & Randy, thank you for blessing this project with your talents, and thank you for working so hard to make this happen. I am forever grateful. Cynthia! Girl, you ROCK! I am so lucky to have found you and thank you for sharing your beautiful voice. Alan, you are so talented, thank you for the support and guidance. Brian and Jeff at Sound Art Studios, excellent job guys! Marika B. thanks for the beautiful art work!
To all my friends & family across the country from Green Bay to Cali, to NYC to Houston, I am so overwhelmed with the constant support and love. Thank you!.....
I want to leave you with this story.. When I was a teenager, my sister Lois gave me a gift for my birthday. It was a Coca Cola bottle that spun around on a pedestal and played "I'd like to teach the world to sing", and on the outside of the box it came in, she wrote, "remember you can do it", love Louey. At the time, I said thank you, and like most, after a couple years, I couldn't remember where it was. When she past, I remembered that bottle in the box with her words of encourgaement. I looked frantically for it, and found it dusty, and packed away under my bed. I would never know how important that was to me until she was gone from my life. So today, I cherish that gift more than ever. So I dedicate this music to her, Lois "Louey" Minten. Who never had the chance to follow her dreams, but it's because of her, that I have the courage to follow mine.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the shows! Luv Ya Krissi
