Influences
The pain, the heartbreak, the laughter, the love... and the process of learning to surrender to it all.
Oh yeah, and... James Taylor, CSNY, Simon and Garfunkle, Dishwalla, Ray Lamontagne, Amos Lee, Tyrone Wells, Erin McCarley... and just about an endless list of other incredibly talented musicians.
Krista Herring was born in San Francisco, and raised in “The OC” - a gypsy child of paradox from the beginning, and an element that finds its way into her music. This California native songbird, who has traveled the country from the East to West coast sharing her soulful prose and bittersweet melodies, now makes her home in Portland, OR, where she thrives on collaboration with the incredibly talented and diverse musical community.
Raised on a musical diet of artists and singer/songwriting legends such as Joni Mitchell, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, James Taylor, Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan and many others, an inspired Krista picked up a guitar at age 16 and learned to play her first song. Once belting out her own rendition of Bob Dylan’s “Blowin’ in the Wind,” Krista found her souls true calling and has been traveling on her musical journey ever since. The “spirit behind the music,” she says, is what truly feeds her soul.
Some believe that the soul and spirit of this generation’s music has been lost to a void of propaganda-driven, money-hungry, industry-manufactured musicians and bands, meant to spoon-feed people what, they are assumed to want to hear. When listening to Krista’s poignant vocals and elegant prose, set to the beat of her acoustic guitar, it’s safe to say that any listener with an open heart and soulful intellect will find that the lost spirit of this generation’s musical paradigm has been resurrected in the illustrious talents of new musicians and artists such as Krista Herring.
Krista’s long awaited new album “Lay It Down,” is expected to be released in June 2009.

“With an evocative grace, affecting presence, and raw acoustic sound reminiscent of the late Eva Cassidy, vocals to match both the pitch and dulcet resonance of Jewel, and a captivating elegance, and magnetism all her own; this young song bird will undoubtedly be a tall glass of water to an otherwise barren, and hackneyed music-industry wasteland."

"...such depth that i haven't heard for quite some time... think Patty Griffin's song writing with the voice of Sarah Mclachlan and you are half way there."

"As renowned poet, and author Kahlil Gibran once stated, “A great singer is he who sings our silences.” Once having a listen for yourself, I’m confident you will agree that this gifted young woman will be doing just that for years to come.”

"Affirm to others the vision of the world you want. You are a free, immensely powerful source of life and goodness. Affirm it. Spread it. Radiate it. Think day and night about it and you will see a miracle happen: the greatness of our own life."~Robert Muller
