Biography – Kristen T. Clark
Fast-rising Canadian country music artist Kristen T. Clark has written and released another powerful new single called “When You Said Yes” to radio stations across Canada. The 14-year-old indie artist is quickly becoming well-known within the Canadian music industry, having grown up in the Peterborough area and who helped organize a hugely successful fund-raising concert for Smitty's Christmas Wish Foundation last November. The new single is the follow-up to “For the Magic of Christmas” co-written as a theme song for the benefit she did in Havelock.
”When You Said Yes”, recorded and produced by Andy Thompson of Northumberland 29 Music Studio, is a collaborative effort between Kristen, Dave Lockwood of CKOL FM radio and Thompson. Lockwood has watched Kristen expand her talents since she was six and has always encouraged her to become a songwriter. She’s also been encouraged to hone her songwriting talents by heavyweight producer/writer Cyril Rawson who has written songs for Gretchen Wilson, Reba McEntire, Lorrie Morgan, Anne Murray, Lisa Brokop and Jason McCoy.
The new song includes overlapping answer-backs and three- and four-part harmonies that were created and written by Kristen on a laptop. Although Kristen has written and released several singles and CDs, the lyrics of this song showcase her growing maturity as a writer and will touch many hearts. Fans wanting to get their hands on a copy can get it as a digital download on CD Baby, iTunes and Amazon.com. Two other singles, “I’m Missing You” and “I’ll Fly Away” are already available there.
Kristen's been steadily moving upward for some time now. She's performed in hundreds of shows and benefits and appeared with many bands across Ontario. She’s performed on several stages at the CMA Music Festival in Nashville (“The Fuel”) two years in a row and was sponsored by the Hill Billy Hotties apparel company to do a “Meet and Greet” down at Riverfront Stages. She was also recently featured on CMT’s Chevy Cross Canada Countdown with Casey Clarke. She has shared the stage with country stars Jamie Warren, Carroll Baker, Steve Piticco (South Mountain), Don Helms and Tara Lyn Hart.
Kristen enjoys writing her own material using her acoustic / electric / bass guitars, home recording studio and vocal abilities. She has begun experimenting with vocal harmonies and guitar picking and strives to evoke strong emotions in her lyrics. She worked diligently with vocal trainer Tara Lyn Hart (Sony) for two years and is currently working weekly with Bill Crane who has an Associate diploma in Vocal Performance. In 1998 Bill was seconded to the Ministry of Education to assist in the writing of the new Music Curriculum for the Province of Ontario. In 1995 he was the recipient of the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. Kristen has also studied guitar for the last five years with several guitar teachers to further enhance her abilities. She hopes to one day be the star that everyone dreams of being, through hard work and dedication.
Astonishingly for her young age, Clark has recorded several CDs, her first entitled “New Beginnings” was a compilation of cover tunes from three different genres. With that completed, she concentrated on writing meaningful songs that really meant something to her, thus embarking on co-writing several songs with her parents, three of which were recorded on her first original 3-song CD called “Kisses To You”. She was quite excited to walk into Music World at the local mall and see her CD on the “New Releases” shelf. The following November she also contributed to a compilation Christmas CD for the United Way.
As if that wasn’t enough, Clark pressed on and wanted to deliver to her fans what they had been asking her for—a CD full of country classics. By June 2006 she delivered her 3rd CD to her fans entitled “Grand Ole Classics”, a 10-song CD full of country classics.
Kristen is making her mark on the world and is steadily working on getting her music out there. During 2007 and 2008 Kristen recorded and released four singles. “For The Magic of Christmas” was released to country radio stations coast-to-coast in Canada, and was added by 22 stations. 2009 is off to a great start with her second single release to radio of "When You Said Yes" on April 1st which has been added by 16 stations. Her other singles have also been played by many internet stations in the US and overseas.

Since her performances in Nashville during CMA Fest, Kristen has been picking up the pace and is now putting major efforts into writing more original songs and getting together a pretty rockin' band. She has stirred up interest from several Nashville producers and hopes to make another album happen soon so she can take her music 'to the next level'! To sum up her achievements in Kristen’s own words—“I just hope everyone enjoys my music and I can use it to help people out all over the world somehow!”

Kristen is another one of the amazing talents coming from Ontario, Canada. I first saw Kristen perform last year in Nashville and was amazed at the quality of her performance. She is the youngest member of the Dark Horse family, but don't be fooled. You'd never be able to tell by her abilities. This girl can rock as well as play classic traditional country and has super star status awaiting her when she gets older. Move over Jewel and Alanis!
~ Darkhorse Promotions Reunion, June 2008
Her performance onstage is equal to many entertainers with years more experience.
