Look up chanteuse, and you just might find Kristen's picture. Her voice is reminiscent of classic jazz singers, but the songs are edgy and smart and cut right across the lines in an interesting way. She hits it out of the park to real music lovers looking for something different. Her hauntingly sultry voice meshes wondrously with fresh lyrical approaches and a knack for creating edgy pop songs with jazz subtleties. Intelligence, passion, and pure talent shine in each project she approaches. The Nashville Scene says, “She's the rare young talent who cares more about expressing a mood and a story than simply showing off her voice. While her relaxed, come-hither purr pulls listeners in, it's the depth of the songs and how well she puts them across that brings people back time and again.” Although young by measure of years, she emits the soul of a veteran musician through her music, lyrics, and performance.
Kristen began singing and performing at the age of six, playing the guitar at age nine, and writing lyrics and music at age thirteen. She's had 12 years of vocal training, studying both privately and also with the Nashville Jazz Workshop and at Berklee College of Music. Her musical influences range from Elvis Costello to Led Zeppelin to Patsy Cline, Edie Brickell and Sarah Vaughan. She wows audiences regularly in and around her hometown of Nashville, Tennessee, and is touring regionally in support of her original releases.
She began recording and releasing music independently at the young age of 16 with her first collection of original songs, “Only Words,” in 2001 and followed up in 2004 with “Moment in the Moon.” In 2006 she worked with producer Ben Strano on her first full length, full band effort, "Love Letters from a Fool." 2007 brought the completion of a stylish music video, "Dangerous," a modern Southern gothic clip that has been getting a lot of attention. In 2008 she came back with a Self-Titled Jazz EP that delves more deeply into a straight ahead jazz sound with tunes by the likes of Cole Porter, Chet Baker and Nina Simone. In addition to her own recordings, she's lent her voice to several projects including “Crazy Blues- A Celebration of Okeh Recordings,” featuring Regina Spektor, Jon Abercrombie, Chris Barron and more.
Whether she's singing a jazz standard, a classic soul tune, or one of her eclectic original songs- Kristen's sound is undeniably her own.
Pleased to meet you--thanks so much for being friends! Perhaps we'll meet for real at a show sometime soon. All the best 'til then!

When I have no one to turn to And I am feeling kind of low, When there is no one to talk to And no where I want to go, I search deep within myself It is the love inside my heart That lets me know my angels are there Even though we are miles apart.
A smile then appears upon my face and the sun begins to shine. I hear a voice so soft and sweet Saying, 'Everything will be just fine' It may seem that I am alone But I am never by myself at all. Whenever I need my angels near All I have to do is call.
An angels love is always true On that you can depend. They will always stand behind you And will always be your friend. Through darkest hours and brightest days Our angels see us through. You are one of my angels. Perhaps I am one for you.
