PRESS:
"With an amber, sultry tone and an expanded vocal range that she uses with dynamic subtlety, Cothron applies late-night jazz chops to contemporary adult pop. She's the rare young talent who cares more about expressing a mood and a story than simply showing off her voice. While her relaxed, come-hither purr pulls listeners in, it's the depth of the songs and how well she puts them across that brings people back time and again.” -The Nashville Scene
“Have you been searching for music's next bold bad girl? Cothron is the buried treasure you're seeking.” -Performing Songwriter Magazine
"…call up your local radio station, ask them to burn all of their Shakira albums, and get Kristen Cothron in heavy rotation. An artist of her ability deserves as much support as possible.” -Southeastern Performer Magazine
"Count me in!" -Music Rown Magazine
“Tougher than Fiona Apple, edgier than Norah Jones, Cothron combines cabaret and indie rock as well as anyone since Elvis Costello.” -The Memphis Playbook
“Genre mixing with a hint of southern mysticism throughout, Cothron does a good strong woman as well as she does a sensitive woman…Cothron's ability to make introspective and prospective music is her strongest trait and is just as important as her voice." -Enigma [Chattanooga,TN]
“…falls into a jazzy vibe with echoes of Patsy Cline, Crystal Gayle, Billie Holliday, and Sarah Vaughan.” -Robert Mills of Maverick Magazine [UK]
“Somewhere between Fiona Apple and PJ Harvey, Cothron's style and sound sits just waiting for takers.” -Velocity Weekly [Louisville, KY]
“Her voice is smooth and soulful (like a mix between Billie Holliday and Judy Garland), this Nashville-based ingénue is bound to win some fans (and break some hearts) with her simple, sweet, catchy pop.” –Free Times [Columbia, SC] “Her hauntingly sultry voice meshes wondrously with fresh lyrical approaches and a knack for creating edgy pop songs with blues subtleties. Intelligence, passion, and pure talent dominate the disc from the infectious groove with gritty touches in Last Chance Girl to the moody, sensuous ballad RSVP and folk driven Slow Down.” -Music Morsels [Atlanta, GA]
“Tougher than Fiona Apple, edgier than Norah Jones, Cothron combines cabaret and indie rock as well as anyone since Elvis Costello.” -The Memphis Playbook
Look up chanteuse, and you just might find Kristen's picture. Her voice is reminiscent of classic jazz singers, but the songs are edgy and smart and cut right across the lines. She hits it out of the park to real music lovers looking for something different. Her hauntingly sultry voice meshes wondrously with fresh lyrical approaches and a knack for creating edgy pop songs with jazz subtleties. Intelligence, passion, and pure talent shine in each project she approaches. The Nashville Scene says, “She's the rare young talent who cares more about expressing a mood and a story than simply showing off her voice. While her relaxed, come-hither purr pulls listeners in, it's the depth of the songs and how well she puts them across that brings people back time and again.” Although young by measure of years, she emits the soul of a veteran musician through her music, lyrics, and performance.
Kristen began singing and performing at the age of six, playing the guitar at age nine, and writing lyrics and music at age thirteen. She's had 12 years of vocal training, studying both privately and also with the Nashville Jazz Workshop and at Berklee College of Music. Her musical influences range from Elvis Costello to Led Zeppelin to Patsy Cline, Edie Brickell and Sarah Vaughan. She wows audiences regularly in and around her hometown of Nashville, Tennessee, and is touring regionally in support of her original releases.
She began recording and releasing music independently at the young age of 16 with her first collection of original songs, “Only Words,” in 2001 and followed up in 2004 with “Moment in the Moon.” In 2006 she worked with producer Ben Strano on her first full length, full band effort, "Love Letters from a Fool." 2007 brought the completion of a stylish music video, "Dangerous." a modern Southern gothic clip that has been getting a lot of attention. In 2008 she came back with a Self-Titled Jazz EP that delves more deeply into a straight ahead jazz sound with tunes by the likes of Cole Porter, Chet Baker and Nina Simone. In addition to her own recordings, she's lent her voice to several projects including “Crazy Blues- A Celebration of Okeh Recordings,” featuring Regina Spektor, Jon Abercrombie, Chris Barron and more.
Kristen is currently working on her second studio record with Ben Strano.
Whether she's singing a jazz standard, a classic soul tune, or one of her eclectic original songs- Kristen's sound is undeniably her own.

She was her daughter, her child of peace The light of a smile, the winter, without those dark nights
In her heart, her name was Kristen, in her soul, her mother’s daughter was aligned The one, the notably sensible, an intellect, holding hands with hope
To give as a mother would give, to accept, as a mother, toward her child Love, unconditional, from life and death, her child, once held close to the breast
The angel, now looking down in guidance, her hug, the softness of the wind Much as the warmth of the sunshine surrounding a heart, the heart of Kristen to forgive
***BOOG015 Lucius Lowe ft Lois Taylor - Sweet music***
Lucius Lowe brings one of his earliest productions "Sweet music" bang up-to-date on the latest release from Boogs Music. The package brings three different flavours to your record box - The classic, smooth vocal house sound of the "High on the groove mix," Hard-hitting club sounds from the "Thru the roof mix" and the deep and soulful groove of the original 2003 mix. Featuring haunting vocals from newcomer Lois Taylor, the package gives an accurate measure of how Lucius' production skills have been honed between composition of the original 2003 mix and more recent remixes. The "Thru the roof mix" also marks Lucius' first commercial release, included on the compilation CD "Dancefloor '06" from Manchester's D6 Records.
