Bio
Kristijan Krajnčan, born 1986 in Slovenia, is an award winning drummer, composer, film composer and cellist. His ability to play various musical stiles in groups that range from trio to big band gave him the opportunity to work with several internationally acclaimed artists and to perform around the world. Besides leading his own Kristijan Krajncan Ensemble he has collaborated with Tarek Yamani Trio, Kaja Draksler Acropolis Quintet, Anton Goudsmit & The Ploctones, Big Band RTV Slovenia, Big Band Stageband, Anneguus Teerhuis Trio, Sri Hanuraga Trio, Marzio Scholten, Mads Vinding to name a few. He started his musical path with playing cello before going on to jazz drumming and composing. He graduated "summa cum laude" at the Prins Claus Conservatory in Groningen (The Netherlands) where his main teachers were Ralph Peterson jr. and Owen hart Jr. He spent half a year in New York as a part of exchange program, studying with John Riley, Richie Morales, Joey Baron and Tyshawn Sorrey. Besides music he also directed three short art movies. He is currently combining his two lifetime passions by obtaining his Masters degree in "Composing For Film" at the Amsterdam Conservatory. "Krajncan is an innovative conceptualist whose writing shows an eye for detail and stylistic impulses. ...Rhythm is key and Krajncan abets it with his supple sense of invention." - Jerry D'Souza, AllAboutJazz "In his debut recording as a leader Slovenian drummer and composer Krajncan leads a talented international band in exciting performances of original tunes. A mightily impressive debut!" - Bob Weir, JAZZ JOURNAL "Drummer Kristijan Krajncan proved to be a deft helmsman and writer for his ensemble, which also featured Ambrose Akinmusire and Jimmy Greene." - Bill Shoemaker, DOWNBEAT MAGAZINE "Kristijan Krajncan is, in the words of my mentor Art Blakey, "a new star on the jazz horizon". - Ralph Peterson Jr., drummer, composer and educator -

Hi Kristijan,
how is it going? Have you been to NY recently? I thought Diederik mentioned something but I didn't see you after all. Is everything going well in live and music (as long as you don't consider those two to be the same thing)?
